The man police say shot two people at Caesars Palace over the weekend has turned himself in. Las Vegas Police say 34-year-old Richard Earl Shepherd Junior surrendered with his lawyer just before noonWednesday at the Clark County Detention Center.
Police had been looking for Shepherd since the shooting early Saturday morning on the Strip property. Both victims have been released from the hospital. Investigators believe the dispute may have been over a woman.
In light of recent events such as the bombing at the Luxor, the shooting at the New York, New York and this one at Caesars Palace, Metro is stepping up security.
"If someone wants to take a gun and walk into a casino, it can be done but hopefully it won't be done. and this is an incident where we're happy it was very minimal as far as injuries," Captain Al Salinas with Metro said.
Shepherd is facing multiple counts, including attempted murder.

I think he is getting to the point of admitting that it is impossible to be able to stop every gun from entering a casino -- and that if someone is dedicated to doing it they can, but he would hope nobody would want to do such a thing...

Isn't it more a comment of "it's legal" rather than "they can get away with it?" Or do the casinos ban firearms? (you can tell I go to Vegas ALL the time, eh?)
I thought even OC on the strip was ok?

its not illegal, they will just ask that you leave it at the security desk until you leave... except for reno.. they just plain don't care.

Taking a gun into a casino is a whole different situation thanshooting at people in a casino!

Maybe this quote is better: "If someone decides to shoot people in a casino, it can be done but hopefully it won't be done."

I think he could have chosen his words better, but under pressure who knows if I could say exactly the right thing either. I'll give Captain Salinas the benefit of the doubt.
