No. If you could do that, no one would ever bother to get theirs from Chesapeake (anti-gun city) with Virginia Beach next door (amazingly fast with getting permits out).

Sucks 'cause you're back down in Norfolk already eh? If you have your proof of training and all your paperwork ready to go, it's a quick 15-30 mins at the police department right on Mill Road (across Eisenhower from the movie theater) to get fingerprinted. It's quick.

Curiously they have signs all over the place, so I've never carried inside the department. Can't find anything about them, but does it even matter that they have a small jail there?

As an Alexandria resident, can I get my CHP from any other county/city in VA?

Interesting responses you've gotten. When I moved here, I lived in Alexandria but worked only one metro stop from Arlington Courthouse. Arlington wouldn't accept my application - told me I had to go to Alexandria.

I ended up moving to Fairfax County before getting the CHL.

I would imagine that all police depts have some sort of jail/holding area inside, but I don't think that would define them as a "detention facility." § 15.2-915 doesn't define a detention facility.

That being said, I would be under the impression that they are not allow to ban guns there. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I'll have to take pics next time I'm there, it's a pretty large holding area, and it's a separate wing of the building from what I remember. In order to even get in the main building you have to walk through a mini-guard-house which is fenced off and has a metal detector in it.

Well..... What about moving on paper?

I'm sure it's illegal, though. :X
