Well....police OC their Tasers, that's for sure.....not really sure if that is a deterrent to crime as much as it is convenience for them.......but it does lead to situations such as I heard a while back where a cop meant to draw his Taser but drew his pistol instead. Instead of bringing a unruly subject under control he killed him. Not sure what ever came of that.

Someone once asked me if my gun was a Taser when I was walking through WalMart.....I just kind of chuckled, said no, and walked on........

Well, the LEO Taser application is different. Especially, since they have continuum of force protocols---which, unfortunately,some/many civilians don't see as applicable to themselves.

I think that, generally, a civilian who would OC a Taser would probably generate some deterrent effect from the Taser. As you say, some people may not even know the difference between a firearm and a Taser (though the C2 is unlikely to be mistaken for a Sig Sauer).

A variable that would come into play would be what else the Taser OCer is showing. If the Taser OCer also is displaying an OC firearm, then, I guess, it may be a combined deterrrent. Though, I think the gun is the biggest source of any detterence effect.

I don't see any particularly strong reason for a person who is wanting to carry a Taser not to OC it. It could be a viable self-defense regimen. But situational awareness would have to be at a high level to prevent snatches. Do Taser X26 holsters have retention? LOL.

I was unarmed both times I looked down the barrel of a gun. I talked my way out once, and I physically escaped the other time. There are other possible ways of handling situations, and I think that's all Hank's getting at. Admittedly diplomacy doesn't always work, but the gun-first-gun-always approach is not necesssarily the best. That said, I carry every day now, diplomacy notwithstanding...

Of course I dont really need a taser or pepper spray as my gun actually has several levels of force already built into it:
Concealed
Holstered
Ready position
Aimed
Fire 1st bullet
Fire 2nd bullet
.
.
.
Change magazine
.
.
.

A BG can stop the encounter at any time, by simply ceasing to be a threat.
