I went to Dick's in Fair Lakes to pick up some ammo. Came upon the ammo counter, where a young(ish) man and his lady were getting a scope fitted to a rifle. Casually glanced over...and noticed a long black nylon holster on his hip...and the grip and the end of the receiver of a stainless Ruger Mark II or Mark III (probably III) strapped into it.

Just as I got there, his scope-fitting was done and he (and his rifle) were escorted to the checkout, so I didn't want to hold them up. I was also a bit puzzled by the choice of a .22 as a holstered-sidearm, but then the .22 in-hand is better than the .45 in the car...

Interesting.

Maybe he is working up a .25 caliber

Tender wrists cannot handle the recoil yet. :p

But a .22 is better than nothing at all.

Well, I'd have put his age in the mid-late 20's, and he didn't look like a tender guy =)


I suppose it's different strokes for different folks; for me, on recoil it's never been the wrists so much as the webbing between my thumb and index finger...maybe I oughtta use some lighter .357 Mag loads in my 2.25" SP101 =)

Hmm...if I were a Bad Guy and knew anything about guns...would I want to start something with someone with the cojones to pack a .22? He'd probably know how to use it =)

True....

You can also carry lots of extra rounds in your pocket too since they are so small and light.

I was just goofing on him at his expense... I am sure he was very capable of any recoil.

There could be several reasons for carrying a .22; after my stroke I had to work back up to my regular .40 sidearm starting with a .22. Nobody here knows his story or reasons and really what does it matter...he is carrying and is that not what this site is about.

The real concern here should be.... what actually is the driving factor to ignorantly escort an armed person to the front of the store to pay for an unloaded rifle? What is the intention of this misguided action? The guy is armed and it is obvious that he had no criminal plans

Please don't think that because you are young and in good shape you can't have a stroke. Learn the signs I was glad I did a while before it hit me because time is of the essence. I had lost all speech and feeling in half of my body it took scribbling with my off hand to convey my medical needs. Sometimes you need to be prepared to defend yourself from well...yourself.:)

The way I figure it, if I miss the BG, the fire ball out the barrel will at least burn him.:lol:

if you're close enough for the fireball from still-burning propellant to hit the BG, but miss with the slug, then you're in serious doo-doo =)

My first OC rig was a .22, I am in my early 20's... I guess this puts me AHEAD of the curve! :p

And wouldn't you know it, I am 22 years old, by the time I am 45 I will be oc'ing a .45
