Ok, this question applies to the country in general, but also specifically to my state, North Carolina. I have heard in the past that some establishments are required to supply a secure place to leave your firearm if firearms aren't allowed in said establishments. In fact, the Marine Corps Air Base that I live near (and used to work on) follows that policy. You can carry your weapon up to the visitor information center, where they will lock it in a safe and take your information so you can enter the base, and pick it up when you leave.
My first question is, is this a legal requirement in any state? (obviously I'd like to know about NC specifically.)
Also, who has ever taken advantage of this 'service'? I hate to reference a movie here, but I always think back to the cliche "Bond" character walking up to the club, the bouncer patting him down and removing his firearm. The firearm is then kept behind the counter and tagged like a coat. I would love to have that option, since it would allow me to go out at night, carry up to the bar that I'm going to (not drinking if carrying, of course) and carry back to my car at the end of the night.
Obviously, in a perfect world, I wouldn't have to check my gun and could have it with me at all times, but alas this isn't Walgreens....
