Why has this ancient story been making its rounds on firearms forums? Is there some sort of underground ZOMG COP STORY ring or something?

It was posted on Digg.com today, and has been spreading like wildfire. It's not new, but that doesn't make it any less tragic.

Admittedly I felt a little silly by posting this as new news after realizing it was a few years old. But then I began to think; so what?

Why do we as a society tend to have such a short memory about atrocities? Why is it that if it's more than a few days or weeks old, it no longer seems to matter?

"In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... the A-Team."

Sounds straight out of an episode, actually... sometimes, it's a shame that life doesn't mirror television.
