GB sign in Walmart, Oxford, OH

My wife was diligent tonight in pointing out a GB sign posted at the front door of Walmart. I had OC'd there many times before but had never seen the sign as it is posted on the backside of tinted glass. I asked the Customer Service Rep. about it, she said it was to keep them safe, and that they quit selling guns after Columbine (Walmart pulls products that don't sell in particular areas, this is what I'm sure really happened as it has elsewhere). I asked her if she knew where the sign came from, she had no clue but said "everyone has them." She quickly got the asst. manager over to speak to me when I asked if he was around.

Firstly, I was quick to inform him that I was a law-abiding citizen and that my firearm was not on me, but that criminals might not give him the same courtesy. He agreed. Asst. Mgr. tells me that they send a truckload of signs when stores open and they post whatever is in them, and that it's probably been there since the store opened. I asked him whether the sign could have come from an outside source, i.e. someone saying that they were REQUIRED BY LAW to post the sign. He didn't know, he had worked there for less than a year. He gave me the general manager's name and said I could call back in the morning. I plan on stopping by after work to see what the deal is.

A few details on the sign that stuck out to me:

Copyright 2004 (alot has changed since then)
"Required by ORC" (Since when is a GB sign required?)

That last one is what made me wonder about the source. We'll see what happens with this, hopefully they'll take the sign down. For pete's sake, they still sell ammunition!

A vague chance it could be related to the ban where liquor is served, if they have wine tasting. Or from a misunderstanding of "dispensed." Some places/people still think that carrying in a place that sells bottled liquor is illegal.

There is a very good chance that is a reason that it is posted. Hopefully the wording will be clarified during this fall's legislative session to state firearms are prohibited where alcohol is sold to be consumed; not dispensed.

Sign down now. It was about someone who was a CCW holder that removed his weapon from its holster for whatever reason, and it ended up pointed at someone. LEOs were called to "escort" the man off the premises. They needed the legal standing to have the perp jailed next time (as if his first actions weren't enough).

there is always the possibility someone was threatening them.. walmart has a security patrol in the parking lot.. but it did'nt always use to be like that..

they've had cameras for quite some time.. there was leaked papers that got out..
wal-mart had kept track of crime in their parking lots.. found it to be unusually high..
the internal report also suggested that someone patroling with a golf cart every 10-15mins would reduce the crime by 90%.

they did'nt start adding patrols untill AFTER this report got out that showed wal-mart not only knew of the high crime rate but that it could effectivly eliminate it by having a security patrol.

wal-mart is very very shaddy, and i dont like buying from them.. but sometimes it's a choice of buy from wal-mart or go without.. i suppose a stronger willed person would just go without.

anyway back to the guy well it was'nt bad enough to make the news.. or i dont remember hearing about it.. then again local news is totally shit.. at least in central ohio.. they'ed rather talk about what celeb is banging who.. or who's in drug rehab.. when they're not pushing softnews they're talking about the buckeyes.. dont get me wrong im a buckeye fan but i dont need to hear 10 mins of bull shit about them every day on a 30min broadcast, it boardlines on lust and it gets a bit annoying, you would think they was sent by god himself.

seriously they're just a ******* football team give it a rest, im probably gonna catch ten kinds of hell for saying that.. but its ego stroking that has lead them to get full of them selves, not to mention the current state of affairs with "big ten" network.. most of the games are'nt broadcast anymore.. it's all about money and it's bull shit that you cant' even watch most games without having cable or satilite company that carries it.

anyway the local news sucks around here i see shit on the internet and the world wide news about ohio i dont see or hear about from the local news for weeks if ever.. it's pretty sad..

im talking about TV.. radio and news paper might be compatent i dont listen or read them.

Just bought a brick of 22lrs at a Cincinnati WalMart, no signs posted. I know one of the salesman in the sporting goods dept. (only by name). I asked him what WalMart policy was about OC or CC in store. He said Big NO NO.

He said his personal policy was the same as the militaries, don't ask, don't tell and see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil.

Thiskind of situation iswhat an old boss of mine was referring to years ago when he gave me some of the best advice of my life: "Brian, if you don't like the music, you go talk to the organ grinder, NOT the f***in' monkey!"

Perhaps the clerk just meant that HE wasn't allowed to OC or CC in Wal-Mart, his place of employment.

I used to live in Oxford and I would imagine that they can and will flip out over anyone OCing (culturally insulated college town, a lot of rich brat students). My brother and I went around the block with shotgunslooking for a rabid cat once, and there was more concern over guys with guns than with a rabies outbreak. We didn't get the cat and the cops had already OKed us running around with guns looking for it, so nothing came of it.

When I asked him about it he told me the guy that just left was the general manager and the issue was addressed. He said you can go ask him, but the answer will be the same. This guy said he has tried to convince the general manager to change mind and the GM keeps saying it’s corp. policy.

The guy that works there is retired and a skeet shooter. He is a straight up guy. We have had many conversations about CC and OC. He is BIG PRO GUN.
