It is a lie. Guns were banned in the UK and crime rates dropped and there are no crimes involving guns now; didn't you know?

It's sad that people buy into this kind of propaganda.
I just registered to tell them a thing or 2
Make sure to ask them what exactly "gun crime" is. Then ask them why they don't similarly include the engine of other criminal activity such as "knife crime" and "car crime."

No wonder they banned their guns. What, if they're committing crimes on their own and stuff. I'm glad my guns are better behaved than that and only do what I tell them to ;)

Well done,'44, for your robust post, but, sadly,my Motherland has long been a lost cause. The people , for the most part, have been emasculated and socialised to such a degree that they can no longer think rationally and coherently when firearms are mentioned.

Why do you think I enjoy my New Kentucky Home so much? It is because I do not have to hear this kind of nonsense here!

But you certainly gave 'em something to think about!Good job!

One of many reasons I'm glad to have left England. I enjoyed my time there immensely, I love every place I visited, but towards the end of my second tour there (USAF, 97-02, 04-07) I was really fed up with the government, politics and tranzi mentalities running the place. My house and vehicles were broken into several times, with little to no police response. Several of my troops were assaulted and seriously injured, with little to no police response. But if you were caught with your military issue, folding, auto-opening knife off base, you went to jail. Shoot burglars with a shotgun, go to jail. Protect your property or your self, go to jail.

I will desparately miss the kabobs, curries, authentic steak-n-ale pie, the rock climbing, wearing kiltsup Ben Nevis, etc. But I think being here in Arizona will make up for it over time. Kilts on Mt. Lemmon, here I come...:what:

Well, I'm sure that fairly soon you'll be called a "stupid, fat American" and ignored entirely on the board. From my experience on primarily British message boards, posters have a great hostility toward Americans, and tend think that we're too incompetent (for a variety of reasons) to even be bothered arguing with. Any good point made is rebutted with "Well, you're just a stupid American, so your opinion doesn't matter here. You're probably fat and have no culture."

But, the discussion does seem relatively reasoned. I've seen much, much worse. Though I haven't heard of the gun manufacturers AK, Gloch, or Mack before... I guess my point is that it seems the problem is a deluge of misinformation, not an erroreous line of thinking like that found in the more serious American anti-gunners.

Amazing thing is it's a skeptic website. Skeptics tend to be libertarians by nature, but in this case I guess they're probably Nerf Libertarians (libertarians who like to talk about economics but avoid guns).

Sigh... still doesn't seem to be working. The unfortunate thing is that a proper education on American gun ownership would take an incredibly long time to write. Such as explaining what the 2nd amendment actually reads as, how gun crime has always been lower in the UK even when we had tighter (or nearly as tight) gun restrictions as they did, how our murders rate not involving firearms is still three times higher than Japan's entire murder rate... Oh, and how firearm ownership's increasing the risk of an in-family shooting is just a statistical correlation, not a cause-and-effect relationship. Using that logic, minorities are more violent because they commit more crimes. Or is it because they are policed more and live in poorer conditions, leading to more contact with a criminal element and thus more likelihood to be involved in crime?

But, alas, I feel that properly understanding the debate requires a certain mindset, one of skepticism (ironic?) and personal responsibility that many people, both in this country and in the UK, do not have.

Gave some more comments. They just seems to get it. I Use to live in England and that folk is very...how should I say...stubborn, and very under the foot by the Government.

Sorry Truebrit,I don't think they have their freedom any longer and therefore feel that they have to be "chained" by it. I am Glad that you saw the Light and came to the Land of the Free.
