They are finally making some progress. The project was scheduled to open in 2008, it doesn't look like that is going to happen.

Three years ago it was suppose to be open in January 08. We have slipped in the schedule and it should be open between October 08 and Jan 09. We are closing bids on the water line this week, so construction should start soon. We will be sending out our new eBULLETin within the next couple of weeks. Thanks for checking on us. I wish it were open now! [align=left][/align] [align=left]The draft fees are $6.00 per day for rifle, pistol, archery. And $5.00 per round of 25 birds trap and skeet. Juniors under 17, no fee for rifle, pistol and archery, and $2.00 off of each round for trap and skeet.[/align] [align=left][/align] [align=left]This is just draft as all fees have to be approved by the County Commission.[/align]

Work continues on the design of the civil plans for the Shooting Park. We recently completed the back check of the 100% designs. They are currently being reviewed by various governmental identities including Clark County. As soon as the reviews are completed and any changes made, they will be prepared for bid. [/align]
Our Marketing Specialist has completed a marketing plan for the Shooting Park, and we are now implementing some of the projects. The first project is the Trade Show Program. The project will consist of taking the Shooting Park display to various trade shows within the Las Vegas market. The first major show will the SHOT Show in February.

This is fantastic news. I sent my volunteer application in for the shooting park (as well as fine arts).

I talked to a local Gun Shop owner today about the park. Cant wait for it to be open!

I sumitted my app this weekend and received a voice mail when I got home tonight thanking me for applying and that a rep will be in contact with me shortly for additional info and questions.

I personally can't wait for this to open There will still be times when I want to go out to the wide open desert to shoot, but I'll feel better knowing someone won't be shooting towards me by mistake which is something I worry about "out there."

I know the draft fees are $6.00 per day, but I hope they decide to include a "locals' rate" or a yearly membership for less. I already have a .22 rifle, I'm considering purchasing a .22 pistol, and I'm moving to within a few miles of the shooting park very soon, so I might just have to go shooting every day !!! I wouldn't be able to afford $180 per month, so if they don't have a membership program, I think I'll go spend a couple hundred down at American Shooters for a full year of range use and free gun rentals.

Either way, you'll be sure to see me at the shooting park with my full compliment of firearms from time to time. I have an AK-47, a Steyr M95, a Marlin Model 60, and a Hi-Point C9 pistol. The AK and Steyr are cheapest to shoot with surplus ammo, but because the bullets attract a magnet (no steel core, just iron in the jacket alloy), the indoor ranges don't like them.

And before anyone gets any ideas, I know that it would not be a good idea to fix bayonets and charge the targets, no matter how frustrated one gets !

If you do see me there andask nicely , I'll probably let you shoot each of 'em

If they offered memberships that would be nice.
It wouldn't be worth it for me, sinceI only make it to LV 2-3x a yr for 3-7 days at a time.

If your looking for some place to shoot there is always Desert Sportsman's off of West Charleston (at the entrance to Red Rock Canyon).
I believe their annual dues are $150-200and NRA memebership is required(not curtain as it has been a few yrs since I checked it out) but they do have events almost every weekend to include SASS, IDPA, Bench Rest, Silhouette, IPSC, VBAR, Sub-gun and Paladin matches.

Events are open to the public, membership not required, the fee to shootis higher for non members.

i was looking into desert sportsman, but the fees are a lil steep for me right now.

If you want to do IDPA shooting or something, you can come out to Desert Sportsman and pay $10 instead of the $5 members pay. That way you get to do some shooting out there. lasvegasidpa.com.

The Clark County Shooting Park is currently accepting Volunteer Applications. Weare very excitedabout the implementation of several volunteer opportunities that support the shooting park. Wealso understand that your time is valuable and are grateful that youwould consider assistingus provide quality service toour customers.

We have opportunities in thefollowing programs:

Trade Show (represents shooting park at trade showswith shooting park booth and promotional materials)
Retail Business Partnership (coordinates with local business who are supporting the shooting park)
Line Safety Officer (serves at shotgun and rifle-pistol ranges assafety officer and customer service representative)
Women's Program (women volunteers to assist other women in firearms safety and introduction to shooting)
Junior's Program(serves with the junior shotgun, rifle, pistol and archery programs)
Host Program (lives in provided on site RV area and provides various services as needed, no children please)

We have established a customer service training class for all shooting park staff and volunteers. You willbe provided with the opportunity tocomplete our"Cornerstone Training"class before being trained for the volunteer program you are interested in.

Our next Cornerstone Training classis on February 21, 2009.



For those interested in participating in the Trade Show Program, we willoffer the Trade Show training class immediately following the Cornerstone Training Program on Saturday, 2/21/09.

[align=left]The legal battle over a controversial 2,900-acre shooting park appears to be over, meaning gun enthusiasts will likely pack up their weapons and head to the public facility when it opens late this year.[/align]
[align=left]Senior U.S. District Judge Lloyd George on Monday dismissed most of the claims lodged by residents who filed a lawsuit in an attempt to stop construction of the park north of Moccasin Road between Decatur Boulevard and Buffalo Drive.
Homeowners argued they were not properly informed of the proposed use of the land, that a shooting range would violate county noise ordinances and that the appropriate environmental impact studies were never performed on the land. George tossed out all but one claim. He declined to dismiss the argument concerning the environmental impact because the Bureau of Land Management is in the midst of its own study.

The BLM, which conveyed the land to the county, is analyzing whether the range would significantly and adversely affect the land, a ruling that could require further studies. The report is expected to be released Aug. 3.Deputy District Attorney Rob Warhola said he believes George's ruling marks the end of the legal wrangling. Residents may file an appeal with the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, but by the time that process runs its course the park probably will be done.[/align]
[align=left]Even if the BLM decides that more environmental work needs to be done, the county would complete the required work and finish the park.[/align]
[align=left]"We did so much out there already, I can't imagine they'd find any (additional work) anyway, "Warhola said. "If they do, we'll just do it."[/align]
[align=left]Attorney Matthew Callister, who in the past has referred to the park as "Disneyland with guns," was out of town Tuesday and could not be reached for comment.[/align]
[align=left]The county began planning the park in the early 1980s and the land was transferred to the county in 2003. Between the time the park was designed and the time the construction began, development in the Las Vegas Valley crept up to its border.[/align]
[align=left]Warhola said master plans outlining future projects are available at the county. The designation for the shooting park land was "public facility."[/align]
[align=left]"Most of them (residents) moved out there after the zoning was approved for the shooting park,"Warhola said. "If they would have just looked and asked to see what public facility meant they would have seen it was a shooting park."
In the past, residents said they believed a public facility designation on the land meant a park, library or school.
George sided with the county in ruling that the sellers of homes are required by law to disclose master plan designations of property within a one-mile radius of the property being sold.
Homeowners also unsuccessfully argued that the county failed to provide adequate notice of its intent to build the range or keep residents posted about Shooting Park Advisory Committee meetings. George also rejected the argument that the county improperly zoned the land.
The first phase of the park will cover 900 acres and cost around $64 million. The park, which ultimately will be the largest shooting range in the country, will include a 1,200-yard high-power rifle range, 125 trap ranges and 24 skeet ranges. Warhola said the first phase should be completed by the end of the year.[/align]
