Yeah. In places like Illinois, England, Australia, etc, it's not at all uncommon for gun owners defending themselves are treated like criminals. Glad to see a climate shift taking place.

Is it possible that this is actually true? I figured this guy would be charged even though he was defending himself.

Illinois past legislation prohibiting being charged under a local ordinance for agun violation if the gun was used in self defense.

You can't legally owna handgun in Chicago (pre 1974 legally registered excluded), but if you use it in self defense the only thing Chicago can do is confiscate the gun.

Wow that's pretty amazing considering its Chicago. I would have expected they would arrest him and charge him with murder and let the grand jury sort it out. Seems like that's the norm for libral states anyway. I'm glad they didn't, no one deserves to be arrested and treated like a criminalfor defending their own life.

This is a very important story because it's Chicago.

Good news for gun owners and carriers, this one. Looks like a very clear cut case.

if the other anti States/Cities took this postion.

it would be a TINY step in the right direction

we could all carry discreetly withno worries of being arrested if we are forced to use it (buy/carry something you wouldn't miss if seized)
Or you could have a couple of handguns on hand to replace the one they seize. Not ideal but better than nothing I guess.

Or Illinois could stop infringing on a right given to us in the second ammendment... that would probably work better.

The Bill of Rights didn't GIVE us anything. It enumerates basic human rights so that the government cannot later try and take them away as history shows us is what governments do best. It's a common mistake made by pro-gun people. You have a right to life whether a piece of paper or your government observe it or not.

Of course you are right, it must be a side affect of living in a "peoples republic" for too long.

Well, that evil victim should not have shot them. That poor drunk almost died! And so young, too...

Hey, 24 year old drunk who gets his kicks from pushing other people around... Here's a thought: If you can't drink responsibly and you're a lightweight, don't get drunk at all! And shame on the writer of that article for sympathizing with the perps.
