We are created equal only. What our value is after that is quite up to the individual. Equality of outcome is for what the egalitarians pray, affirmative action.

Contrarywise; you have never heard the aphorism 'play to your strengths'? When our correspondents ignore their failings then I wonder, do they think that they are beyond criticism?

An interesting thread would be 'in how many ways are we unequal'. Anony Mouse could start with all of the eXtreme Close Quarters Battle training he has had and how that especially qualifies his opinion. Does LEO666 think that we are equal, or that 'it's a dirty job, somebody's got to do it' and he deserves something for his altruism?

The only value in opinion is from the provenance (the intermediate pieces of data utilized to compute a final data element) and its exposition.

Dammit, sarcasm is hard to convey in written form with people you don't really know. :)

I agree that all life is equally sacred, but I just can't see myself getting in the middle of a street fight between a couple of bums, because there would be no way of me knowing who started it, the circumstances, etc. Now in the case of the posted video, it was VERY clear who was in the wrong and who the victim was, and if I had the means I would most definitely intervene.

The written word can be very limiting as it lacks tone, voice inflection, facial expression and body language to name but a few factors in deciding what we "heard."

Glad that you clarified a possible misconception regarding your previous posting - yes all human life is equally sacred. No one would suggest that anyone get "in the middle" of a street fight; however, some action might be called for in the defense of an obviously injured party without knowing "who started it" other than ignoring it.

In any event, you did stir up a lively response.
See I don't just criticize, I give credit where it is due! :D

As to getting involved in street fights, while it is dangerous it can still be necessary. The fact is that everyone has the right to be defended and it doesn't matter who started it. Anyone who is not trying to de-escalate the situation is clearly in the wrong. In any type of self-defense or third-party defense situation, the procedure is to de-escalate the situation, not aggrevate it more.

I have witnessed so many of these fights. What I often notice is that the person who did not start the fight is often the one who is aggrevating it. A will say something rude to B and B gets in A's face. A then pushes B and B then hits A. A hits B several times back. B then gets out a knife and comes toward A. That's when C suddenly materializes and racks a shell into his Mossberg. A and B suddenly become friends and leave the area. :)Not literally but if you follow the story, even though A started the altercation, B could have clearly just walked away from the thing yet B aggrevated it to the point where C (the passerby) could have legally shot him.

Personally, if you witness a street fight you are already involved one way or another. Good conscience won't allow one to go to sleep at night doing nothing while someone could be getting killed. If you don't want to handle it yourself, at least call the cops. Otherwise, 9 out of 10 times the presence of a handgun along with a "Dudes, take it elsewhere" should end it right then and there. If it must be the case of the 1 out of 10 that comes at you with the knife/bat/club or whatever, that can also be handled the hard way. If they come at you without a weapon, pepperspray ought to do the trick and if that doesn't work, maybe use a taser.

I don't think decent normal people should have to be in fear of criminals and troublemakers. I don't have a problem carrying a gun, taser, pepperspray, knife, and billy club if I need to although it seems a bit ridiculous. It is more ridiculous though that it is getting to the point where ordinary citizens' daily lives and routines have to be jeapordized by drunks, criminals, drug addicts, crazies, troublemakers, gangmembers, punks, and other forms of socially bankrupt scum. Yet these situations can go on for a lengthly amount of timebecause the nearest police officer is conveniently seated in his patrol car with a radar gun in his hands, a cup of coffee in his lap, and a donut in his mouth unable to do anything.

I do not know which state you live in Protector84 (your profile does not show) but I would add that in Virginia, you would be advised to call the local Police Dept. ASAP and report the incident. Anytime that I were to feel forced to even suggest the possible use of deadly force, I want to be the one reporting it, not the other party(s).
Imagine the problems if they (the combatants) called in first and claimed that you threatened them with a weapon!

However, if I am OCing and the BG(s) happen to notice it I am still brandishing or otherwise threatening anyone.

Just my 2 [sup]1[/sup]/[sub]2[/sub] cents.
