Open Carry at 18

i am a new member to this website, and i have a question that may or may not have been answered in this group before. I am 18 and looking to buy my brothers handgun that he no longer wants. i am wondering if it is legal to open carry a handgunin AZ at 18, or do you have to be 21? i know that it is legal to purchase a handgun at 18 as long as its a private sale, and not through an FFL dealer.i have both sides to the story and this feels like the place where i can get the best answer! i dont just want my pistol to collect dust in my house, but actually use it for self defense if need be. thank you all for your time.

i have seen that map and noticed that it stated arizona is an open carry state at 18. however, i asked somebody at a gun store about this situation and he stated that you can open carry a longun but not a handgun. he said that there was a federal statute that prevented anyone under 21 to carry a handgun. was he just misinformed?

Yes, he was indeed wrong. It amazes me how MISINFORMED a lot of 'gun dealers' are. In my opinion, I would think that most gun dealers would be experts on local and federal gun laws and if they didn't know the answer it sure would be nice if they had the balls to say, "I don't know." Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the case. I've had experiences like this myself and heard stories similar to this one. I just find it odd, that's all.
