GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Spartanburg County sheriff's deputies said Saturday they are investigating an abduction at the University of South Carolina's Upstate campus.
They said they responded to a violent abduction between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m.
Tammy Whaley, the public relations spokeswoman at USC Upstate, said a 21-year-old student was taken from outside his home next door to the school.
She said the student went to his mailbox outside his apartment complex and was approached by four to five men armed with an AK-47 rifle.
Whaley said the student was driven around, beaten and stripped before the abductors let him out of the vehicle. He was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.
