thanks for the kind words

Ron, you have a post count of 366!?! I know you to be a strong supporter of 2A and VCDL coordinating gun shows. I guess you are just a man of few words/posts. :)

I usually talk too much. Many times I just don't know when to shut up!! :) I don't post a lot on here although I check in almost every day. And, being a creature of habit I usually go to the same places all the time so I think people would get tired of reading that I carried in the same ole places as before.

I did open carry in the DMV on Patrick Henry Drive today. I had to go there to take care of some business. The rent-a-cop hardly gave me a second glance.

thanks again,
roN

respectfully i have heard Eds name mentioned a many times on here referring to the OC cards but who is he? Thanx

Ed is a pro-active member of VCDL, an Executive Member, who takes great personal interest and pride in supporting our RKBA. He has produced a number of tangible articles (T-shirts, coins, magnets, cards) to further the effort. If there is a major event in Virginia, you are more likely to see him there that not.

Vehicle storage of firearm?

Hello all. Are there any thoughts on how best to legally secure your firearm inside a vehicle on the few occasions it may be required durning my day?

A trunk is an option for most. Since my Ford Explorer doesn't have one I bought a small safe that I cable locked in the back. The safe was about $100 and has keypad/key lock. I chose to not use the keypad just in case one of my kids or their friends decide to try to figure out the code. http://www.safetysafeguards.com/

I have seen small (thin) one-gun-safes that slide under the seat also.

You have to think about where and how you will disarm. It is more convenient to be able to sit in the drivers seat and simply put your firearm in a safe than it is to walk around your car and open the trunk and unholster/belt.

Typically we don't recommend leaving a firearm in the car while it is unattended unless you don't mind someone stealing it. :) Walking around with an empty holster is a good way to let thieves know that the car you just left probably has a multi-hundred dollar gun up for grabs.

ETA: If you have a locking glovebox (which many don't lock anymore) that is a decent option. I often put it in the center console if I will need to leave the car but will be back shortly. If I am going to be gone all day it will be in the safe.

The Mall

I have a tendency not to shop at the mall much. I do however buy items from stores attached to the mall. In malls that post no firearm signs, are the attached stores with exterior entrances OC friendly? or posted? any thoughts or experiences?

Dicks and others at Patrick Henry for instance welcomes gun carriers and their wallets.

Most malls are anti-OC.

Many stores and restaurants attached to the malls are pro/neutral-2A. I often OC to Chipotle at Patrick Henry Mall in Newport News. I have also OC-ed to Dicks, Bailey's, JC Penny's, Dillards but each time I entered through the store-entrance and not a mall entrance. If you OC in the mall there is a good chance you will be asked to leave by mall ninja. :) Several members have OC-ed and "got away with it" at local malls but others have been escorted out. So as long as you OC in the store and don't exit "into" the mall you should be ok, assuming the store you are shopping is 2A friendly.

I cringe at having to go to any mall but having two daughters I wouldn't be much use to them if I refused. :)

I have seen someone escorted out to the main street for carrying. Mobile mall cop saw him walking and told mall property was the mall.

Bought a Streamlight Key-Mate. This little thing is bright as hell for only $9. Can't wait to get back home and carry again. Feeling naked all the time around here without my gun. I'd like to get my wife a CHP, so if anyone knows of a good class on the Hampton side of the water, it'd be helpful. Thanks a bunch, maybe see you soon?

OCed all over the place finally got to go on the infamous James town ferry (they seem like some disgruntled guards on the James side. not sure why) to the Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Then to Chippokes state where I found that the maps they give out still say firearms are only for CHP holders. But no google eyes.

It's good to be back! About to OC my way to the Marksman for some range time. I wish there was somewhere I could shoot my own ammo with my AR.

You could always join LGC. They have a 50 and 100 yard range.

I thought it was a good idea for the Marksman to allow .223 shooting on the 25 yard side. To make sure that no one shoots non-frangible ammo they require the purchase of their own. I never took advantage of it since my LGC membership came through.

I haven't been OC-ing out much since I have been going places that it was verbotten. If I go out for dinner tonight my P220 stainless will be shown off. ;-)

ETA: OC-ed to BD Mongolian Grill, no issues, comments or googly eyes. :)
