Hello constitutionalists, I normally don't put items on this distribution list that pertain to strictly local matters but am compelled to do so this time. The Cook county Board of Commissioners is debating a bill that would ban ALL legal firearm ownership in the county with the exception of the police and military. The only exception would pertain to Chicago city residents who already own a gun(s) who would be grandfathered in.

Also, the board is considering another bill that would effectively ban guns shops from the county based on the idea that such outlets have to be at least a mile from a school, park, house of worship etc. This not only includes traditional guns shops but would impact outfits like sporting goods stores and other retail outlets that sell guns as well.

This is nothing short but the elimination of the 2nd Amendment in Cook county and Chicago!! If this passes in the most populous part of our state, it will only be a matter of when, not if such a ban would become effective in all of Illinois! We in the Chicago area desperately need your help to stop these outrages from becoming law. Below is a notice from the Ilinois State Rifle Association where I first heard of this threat that gives more details and lists who the specific commissioners are who are spearheading this effort. I'm putting out an urgent request that you call the two men at the numbers listed in the ISRA notice below and tell them that you oppose both the gun ban and the effort to ban gun shops in this county. It doesn't matter if you don't live in this area or even for that matter in this state. These guys need to know that We the People know what they're up to, are watching them like a hawk and will bombard their offices with phone calls telling them to stop this assault on our liberties! Folks, today it's Cook county and Chicago, tomorrow it's your city, town, county or the entire state. Please call these commissioners at the numbers listed below to voice your opposition. If you live in Cook county call your own commissioner to voice your opposition as well. I've alread done so and will do so again.

Below is the notice and one final point. This is the perfect reason that we need to have the Constitution Party as a bulwark for liberty and if you haven't gotten involved, don't put it off. If you're looking to make a difference, here's your opportunity, especially if you are considering running for office; we need you on the front lines!

Gary Dunlap Co-Chairman Constitution Party of Illinois

Here's the ISRA notice:

ISRA Action Alert: TOTAL COOK COUNTY GUN BAN CLEARS FIRST HURDLE

Rabid gun-grabbers on the Cook County Board came one step closer last week to instituting a total ban on firearm ownership in the county except for police and military personnel.

Introduced by Commissioner William Beavers, the so-called Safe Streets/Weapons Registration Ordinance appears on the surface to be some sort of gun registration scheme. However, closer examination reveals that the only people who could comply with the registration requirements would be Chicago residents who had previously registered their guns with the city. Everyone else in Cook County would have to turn in their guns to the police.

The ordinance would certainly ban all handguns as the ordinance disallows registration of handguns that do not have a chamber load indicator. Few, if any, handguns could comply with this requirement, so they would have to be surrendered to the police.

The full text of Beavers proposed ordinance may be found here. To learn more about William Beavers, click this link: http://www.co.cook.il.us/district04.htm .

William Beavers is an enemy to our Constitution and an enemy to all freedom-loving people of the United States. Call him at (312) 603-2065 and also call his other office at (773) 731-1515 and tell them exactly what you think of Beavers and his plan to disarm law-abiding citizens.

Another gun-hater on the Cook County Board is Larry Suffredin. Suffredin has fielded a proposed ordinance that would shut down all gun shops in the county. You may read about that ordinance by clicking here. Larry Suffredin is an enemy to our Constitution and an enemy to all freedom-loving people of the United States.

For full information on Larry Suffredin, click this link: http://www.co.cook.il.us/district13.htm . Call Suffredin at 847-864-1209 and 312-603-6383 and tell them exactly what you think of Larry Suffredins plan to punish law-abiding gun owners.

Even if you dont live in Cook County, or even if you dont live in Illinois for that matter, call anyway. Freedom is at stake here.

In addition to calling these gun-hating stooges, please do the following:
1. Post this alert to any and all Internet bulletin boards of which you are a member.
2. Send this alert to all your gun owning friends and ask them to call Beavers and Suffredin too!
Remember preservation of our 2nd Amendment rights is a cultural imperative. Gun control is a disease; you are the cure!

My dream of a crime free Chicago is one step closer to coming true, the days where I won't need a gun to defend myself are on the doorstep!!

What are the chances of this passing? Have you been following this Doug?

I have chamber loaded indicator, looks like I get to keep mine, if I lived in Chicago...

I hope they DO PASS this legislation - we need a great set of facts to get a federal court in the 7th Circuit to incorporate the Second Amendment. A perfect storm brewing for after Heller!

Bring it on! I feel confident. Although I may need a temporary place to store my arms for a while.

My springfield XD 45 does. Then again, I live in Arizona where sanity prevails in the legislature(not the govenor) and OC is pretty commonplace. You poor souls in Illinois and Wisconsin need to vote some people into office who aren't leftist nutjobs.

Yes, your XD does have a "chamber load" indicator, however, someone unfamiliar with the weapon would not know what it is. Therefor, it would be disallowed.

Every fully functional firearm has a chamber loaded indicator that all are familiar with. Safety off, pull trigger. If firearm goes bang, chamber was loaded.:D

it is really sad to see this happening in the state of IL,i guess these constitution haters think that this is going to stop crime, don't they know that criminals are going to be criminlas no matter what law they pass, and that law abiding citizens aren't a threat to the public safety.
