Even smaller world, I too took his course. I live on the complete other end of the state too. Really nice guy and has it the whole process setup perfectly. Sooo easy.

Unfortunately here in PA many states don't honor our permits because our permit requires no trainin

How long did your FL permit take to process? At least you guys have shall issue permits that aren't highly intrusive unlike us in the Socialist State Of Maryland. I really like the set up that Dr. Eimer had too.... one stop shopping for everything...the paperwork, how to fill it out, notary, fingerprinting, photographs, ect.

It's been a year and a half so my memory may be off. I want to say 28 days exactly. Dr. Eimer has streamlined the process, he's a standup guy.

As an aside, the FL permit is useful for lawful permanent residents living in States where US Citizenship is a prerequisite for a CCW permit. Provided that ones home state honors a FL permit , naturally. Thus far FL has no Citizenship provision, merely proof of lawful status.

What is the benefit to getting a Florida CCW? Is it cheaper or easier to get? (other than if you cannot get one in your home state)

The good thing about VT is that we require no permits. If you are legally allowed to own a gun you can carry OC or CC without any restrictions. The number of places legally offlimits in Vt can even be counted on less than one hand. Gotta love VT, we have the least restrictive gun laws of any other state in the country, and the 2nd lowest violent crime rate to boot (topped only by Maine which has no one living there to begin with).

so would a copy of your DD214 showing you were an expert pistol shot in the military count / fulfill the training requirement?
Florida accepts proof of current military service or an honorable discharge (your DD-214 alone is enough) as one of the ways to fulfill its training requirement. Several other states do too, but many do not.

I applied for my FloridaCCW permit late last year. It took exactly four weeks. I am a Florida resident and don't know if anout-of-state application takes longer. I was told electronic fingerprinting significantly speeds the process. Bill

I used my DD-214but took the firearmscourse after I submittedtheapplication. I would recommend taking the course. It was worth every penny of the $60.00 fee. I intend to take the advance course as soon as it is offered..I found therewas a lotI did notknow about CCW laws in Florida. Bill

Hey yall, I mailed my application off on (01.08.08). By Monday the 14th the 117$ had been cashed so hopefully it will go quickly. My room mate sent his off the 2nd week or december and even with a DWI on his record, his permit came in a few days after xmas. Seems like the're speedin' things up. Mind you we are in Louisiana so its not as far a "Maine" per say..

Called the department of licensing, and they said that they'd recieved my application on the 3rd of Jan (which is funny, considering they cashed my check in mid-december), and just got the permit today. Hopefully you out of state guys who applied around the same time as I did should be seeing something in the mail soon.
