I am conducting an ongoing project to compile a list of pertinent gun laws for all of the states that surround Alabama, as these are the only places I ever go when I eave my home state. Florida is basically a lost cause, so now I move onto Georgia. I gladly admit that I am no good at researching the laws of other states, so I am looking for a little info through you knowledgeable fellas.

I understand that, even though I be but 19, my concealed carry permit is good for concealed carry in Georgia. However, what about Open Carry? If it is legal, what sort of reaction can I expect? Is it like AL, where even though it is legal, you run the real risk of being arrested? Or is the Georgia community a little more accepting? Thanks for any and all responses!

You are legal to OC in GA with your AL permit. A permit is required to OC in GA. As for acceptance, it varies. Just like anywhere else, the cops and general population don’t have the best knowledge of gun laws. I OC fairly frequently and have only had one soccer mom hassle me.

Be aware, as I am sure you are, that GA has many, many places off limits to carry (open or concealed). We actually have more places off limits than any other state.

Here are GA’s gun laws “in plain English”: http://www.georgiapacking.org/law.php

That page also has links to the state code sections, attorney general opinions and case law.
