Does anyone have the scoop on this amendment? I have never OC'd in TN, but I frequently visit and i'll probably OC next time I do so.

I just want to make sure the laws have not changed. Is OC still legal? I am a SC resident.

It's still legal. The part that will go into effect in 2008 just has to do with the use of weapon during the comission of crime.

Here is the Attorney Genreal's Opinion on open carry.

I appreciate the clarification.

PS - Are there any local ordinances around Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, or Sevierville that I need to know about that would prevent me from carrying, open or concealed?

No Problem

State law T.C.A. 39-17-1314 preempts any local ordnances on the carrying of firearms.

Seems like I have read threads of others that have OC'd in the towns you mention without any trouble. There was an incident in Knoxville a while back, but since then the KPD is supposed to have had remidal training on the handgun carry laws.

I am rusty on my legal vocabulary; I presume when you say"preempts" itmeans that it prevents local ordinancies from restricting open carry, right?
