Can someone direct me to where I can view VA law on excessive force and or any other law I need to know before I start carrying.........:?

As much as I want to carry it just scares the hell outa me that some jury gets to decide whether my life was in danger or not and that really ticks me off. So I want to read up on any and all VA law concerning self defense and excessive force just in case one unfortunate day I would have to use my side arm.

You all seem to know a lot about this whole open carry thing.....;) So i figured I would ask for some help from you fine people.......:D

VCDL has a good overview of places you can and cannot carry:

http://www.vaguninfo.com/ is also a great place for references to va gun laws.

Here is a pamphlet on VA gun laws that is a very useful and concise (special thanks to BobCav):

+1[suP]x+1[/suP] to http://www.virginia 1774.org for posting case law. Knowing how the courts have interpreted the statutes is better than merely knowing what the Code of Virginia says is not legal. Glad to see more folks citing its contents along with the Code.

stay safe.

Righty-O Skid. Case law is the basis for self defense in VA. It behooves everyone to brush up and understand VA case law concerning self defense.

Common law, or case law, is a system of law based on judges' decisions rather than statutes or constitutional provisions. Virginia's common law allows the acquittal of defendants who can prove they used an appropriate level of force while acting in self-defense.
