my letter so far for trying to get my gun CC'd at school

Let me begin this with I wish to legally (I will not illegally, or against
any policy... I do not currently for fear of the penalties... i will never
knowingly do anything that is against a policy i have had to agree to) a
concealed pistol on university grounds.

I will forgo all the personal reasons such as "I only wish to be able to
protect myself".

Currently under state law "...Local laws and ordinances that are
inconsistent with, more restrictive than, or exceed the requirements of
state law shall not be enacted and are preempted and repealed, regardless of
the nature of the code, charter, or home rule status of such city, town,
county, or municipality..." (RCW 9.41.290)

I feel that enforcing similar laws to schools, should be done. Right now
such groups as FIRE (http://www.thefire.org/) are doing what they can to
make sure public universities are in compliance with the first amendment of
the united states. While i will not get into the battle of what the united
states second amendment 'means', i wish to point out the Washington state
constitution section 24 states "The right of the individual citizen to bear
arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired, but nothing
in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or
corporations to organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men."

And section 12 say "No law shall be passed granting to any citizen, class of
citizens, or corporation other than municipal, privileges or immunities
which upon the same terms shall not equally belong to all citizens, or
corporations."

As it is right now any non student may carry a concealed weapon on campus,
thereby creating a class of citizens privileges that do not apply to
another.

Because I'm not nearly as great as writing i refer you to FIRE's writings on
why public universities are compelled to follow the first amendment,
(http://www.thefire.org/pdfs/free-speech.pdf) because I think the united
states constitution should hold the same weight as the Washington state
constitution in this great state i proudly call home and in the schools I
attended in order to make me a more productive member of society.

Technically a non-student can't carry on campus. The only difference is that they can't kick me out of school. They can, however, trespass me which means I could then be arrested if I ever set foot on the campus again for any reason.

I'd think with all the other arguments it might make sense to point it out, if no one agrees though i'll work it out with out it.... just thought it'd help to use one more thing to our advange.

Please don’t be offended, but you should probably hold off on sending that letter until after you finish English 101. They are not going to take you seriously with the way that’s written.

I have... i know i don't write all that great (that's why i'm asking for some advice).

perhaps not just throwing something together might help me out as well.... but this is who i am (bad writter), and where i'm at (just 'threw it together')

First of all, you come off sounding defensive in the first line, as if you are afraid they are going to assume that you currently carry illegally. You don't have to prove your innocense here.

Second, it is much too long. You are dealing with an administrator who really doesn't want to read this in the first place. Truthfully, they will read the first couple of sentences and decide whether to continue reading or just toss it out as a "nutball" letter. The start of your letter certainly would lend towards the latter judgment.

Perhaps a better route to go would be to get on board in supporting some legislation that we hope to get proposed this coming legislative session.
