Public ranges: Shooter's express in Belmont, Firepower in Matthews and Indian Trail (these are my favorites because of the people). Shooter's has a 50 yard rifle range. Let me know when you want to go.

actually, shooters is closing... last i heard was that they would be closed for good by the end of march

look into the Rowan County Wildlife Assoc (exit 75 off of 85)... a little pricey to join, but worth it in the long run.
