Who's the better candidate

Romney is excluded for obvious reasons, not the least of which the fact that he is as big of a gun control proponent as Hillary.If you would've voted for him, your vote shouldn't count anyway.

I'm a Ron Paul guyand am convinced beyond any doubt that Ron Paul is the best candidate on almost every issue, but am having trouble deciding who's the better candidate in what is shaping up to be a 3-way race. Any help?

Well if you are truly looking on the Rep. side only , you have to look at Romney, even if he is an idiot (I agree).

Otherwise, it will probably be Obama vs. Huckabee/Romney/McCain

Both are awful, each in his own, unique way.

I originally voted "I dunno" but after a little more thought Huckabee is the better choice, simply because at least he supports the 2A. McCain has absolutely no redeeming qualities.

I can handle religious evangelicalism, especially considering he won't be able to do anything *that* big, and the stuff he can do is stuff I agree with (well except for the rampant big government spending he's been proposing); but I can't trust McAmnesty not to cheat at Scrabble.

I think I would tend to go toward Romney, to be entirely honest. He seems like too much of a bumbling idiot to me to do anything good or bad. I can deal with a net sum of 0.

Huckabee. He's hilarious. He has a campaign commercial with Chuck Norris. Come on! Plus, his idea of ditching the income tax in favor of a national sales tax would force all the illegals, drug dealers, pimps, prostitutes, and welfare sacs to pay taxes and contribute. I cant argue with that.

With Thompson's now likely exit from the race, there isn't anyone left I can vote for with a clear conscience. If it weren't for Romney's ignorance and arrogance on the 2nd Amendment, I could support him, albeit a little lukewarmly. The rest, I can't support on numerous issues. If not for judge appointments, I would just skip over the presidential portion of the ballot.

Ron Paul was second in Nevada. Why give up on him so early?

I don't think hes giving up, its just that Thompson and Paul are looking to have long odds at winning now. However, in the event of a brokered convention 1 delegate could be worth all of them, so I'm sticking with Paul. My second choice is Huckabee, because I feel he is the most progun of the front runners.

Yes, delegates are the key (and in a brokered convention, the delegates aren't bound).

I'm not giving up on Paul by any stretch. But every single person on this forum is used to making contingency plans...otherwise we wouldn't be here at OCDOwould we?

Plus, there are a few lost souls here who don't support Ron Paul and I like watching the discussion.

By the by, my "second favorite" (since I'm assuming Freddy T. is toast) would be Huckster if not for the fact that he couldn't even promise that he'd veto the expansion of SCHIP. So with Huckster, you get socialism galore with a recognition of gun rights. With Mr. "100 years war," you get endless war for...???..., barely any respect for the 2nd Amendment, buta fair amount of fiscal restraint.

In choosing my second fav, I think I'll say gun rights trump the fiscal situation since our economy's going to hell anyway...that was decided in 1913 (and the gov't going bankrupt wouldn't be all that bad anyway...might be fun. Will I be able to repossess their assets? I call Statue of Liberty. I guess the Chinese would get that actually. Damn. Well, with our GDP at $13B and our national debt at $9B with a huge unfunded mandate coming up with Social Security, we'll find out soon enough). So Huckster's probably my 2nd favorite.

Actually I think I like Mitt Wit...no I don't...yes I do...well, I did, but now I do until I don't. "let me be perfectly clear, I never supported Mitt, but now I do, and when I didn't, I did." And that's all I have to say about that.

That won't be remotely interesting I don't think. Most of the conservative base is dead set against McCain. He pulls a lot of votes from people voting in GOP primaries who are not registered Republicans. I will be surprised if he does as well on Super Tuesday among registered R's. He has done, and even now continues to do, lots of things to piss off the GOP base, lately, primarily with illegal immigrants.

As much as I supported Fred Thompson, Fred aligning himself with McCain doesn't get my vote for McCain, it only gets my derision for Fred. However, most talking heads I have read of late think such a pairing unlikey due to numerous factors.
