I'm turning to the great minds that reside hear for some help on another project, this time an essay. It's for an inquiry based writing class, so my sources need to be more along the lines of peer reviewed articles and the like. I'm planning on doing a broad paper on the second amendment. I hope this will enable me to branch off enough to meet the required minimum word count. I plan to use John Lott's book, More Guns Less Crime, and a DVD entitled In Search of the 2A. I'll probably quote the federalist and anti-federalsit papers.I may interview someone in law enforcement to get their side of the story as well. What other resources are you guys aware of? I don't think going to NRA.org will cut it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Stephen Halbrook's "That Every Man Be Armed" is a very good treatise on the topic. "The Seven Myths of Gun Control" by Richard Poe might be interesting. "Armed" by Gary Kleck and Don Kates. And "To Keep and Bear Arms: The Origins of an Anglo-American Right" by Joyce Lee Malcolm.

There are a host of others, but this is a good start.

The Samurai, the Mountie, and the Cowboy by Dave Kopel is good comparison of gun control of various countries, unfortunately its pretty outdated (late 80's IIRC) so it doesn't cover the new round of gun bans from the UK and Australia, but I still found it pretty interesting.

My review of this book:

Anyone that calls themselves a "gunowner" should have one.

He explains various firearms, but above that why we have them, and why everyone should have them.

Best book I own.
I've read both of his books and they are both staring at me on a book shelf in my study as I write this. Not sure the requester needs the level of detail found in Boston's Gun Bible, but it would make a great reference for such things.
