ProtestEasyGuns.com is planning to hold a "lie-in" protest in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday, February 3, 2008. The protest will be held at 2:30 PM, in the park directly across from the CNN building. Updates will be posted HERE on their site.

ProtestEasyGuns.com is an anti-gun organization with four main goals.

1. They believe that background checks for gun purchases should no longer be instant. They do not state how long they believe such background checks should take.

2. They believe that trace data on all firearms purchases should be made public, even though making such information public would serve no useful purpose and could endanger the lives of law enforcement officers.

3. They believe that any exchange of firearms between private citizens should be subject to a federal background check (this is often referred to as "closing the 'gun show loophole'"), thereby, creating de facto gun registration.

4. They want the 1994 federal "assault weapons" ban reinstated, despite the fact that it had absolutely no measurable impact on crime when it was in effect.

ProtestEasyGuns.com recently hosted a well-publicized "lie-in" at the Virginia state capitol, in an effort to pressure state legislators to pass a bill aimed at closing the "gun show loophole." Fortunately, a strong counter-protest by gun rights advocates had the desired effect, and the bill was defeated.

If you want to know the facts about ProtestEasyGuns.com, visit ProtestEasyGunsLIES.com. There you will find all of the information and resources (shirts, signs, etc.) you need to join this counter-protest.

Though it's not required, you can RSVP for the counter-protest here:

Everyone should be very happy that GrassRoots members showed up to protest at the PEG protest.

The speakers railed on for quite a long while, especially so when one considers this was supposed to be a silent protest.

PEG people wanted:
1. a renewed assault weapon ban
2. a renewed normal capacity magazine ban
3. criminal sanctions for gun owners who have a gun stolen and fail to report it stolen within an arbitrary time period
4. child safety locks
5. gun registration for BOTH handguns and long guns
6. mandatory "safety" training prior to purchase of a firearm
7. "lock up your safety" law
8. "one gun a month" law
9. repeal of the state pre-emption law so as to allow cities to ban guns

There were other issues they wanted, but after listening to them drone on and on for over 15 minutes, I lost track.

If GrassRoots had not been there to present the pro gun rights side of things, then the mass media would have been left with only the other side to air.

Thank you to all who came to make sure the coverage was as balanced as we could hope for. It truly is the small things that people do that make the differences. Thank you.

Folks, Our counter protest rally went pretty well today. The anti-gunners had about seven folks present. GrassRoots had about 14 people. We waited patiently while they gave their message to the camera crews present (WIS-tv 10, WLTX-19 and one other unknown crew). Our people were wearing the GUNS SAVE LIVES tee shirts and were gathered around the PEG people so that we were in every camera shot we could get in. Some of us held small signs (thanks to Ralph) with pro gun slogans on them. After the PEG folks concluded, the camera crews interviewed GrassRoots leaders Robert Butler and Bill Rentiers. Keep an eye out for these segments to appear on the local evening news channels in the Columbia area. We all maintained a level of dignity, respect and composure - though a few PEG people did not do the same. Some of our folks also had camcorders and digital cameras on hand, so we should have some nice footage and photos to post on the website soon. And we had fun doing it.
