UPDATE and CORRECTION. The hearing is TODAY!!! Tuesday, January 29

Sen. Madsen's SB 67, Protection of Constitutionally Guaranteed Activities (aka Parking Lot Preemption) is scheduled for a committee hearing today, Tuesday 29 January at 2:00 pm in room W 020 (West office building directly north of the capital).

This bill will correct the AOL decision and prevent most employers from banning lawfully possessed firearms from private cars parked in employee parking lots.

    Bill information available at <http://le.utah.gov/~2008/htmdoc/sbillhtm/sb0067.htm>.

GOUtah! is supporting this bill and encourages you to support it as well.

If you are able, please attend the hearing in support of the bill. I always encourage those attending the legislature to wear "urban cammo" which ideally consists of business casual attire. In any event, please avoid T-shirts (especially those with the stereotypical political statements on them), baseball caps, and other very informal attire.

Please contact the members of the Senate Government Operations and Political Subdivisions Standing Committee today or Wednesday morning and ask them to support SB 67. Full contact info for committee members can be found at <http://www.goutahorg.org>. As always, we encourage polite communications with elected officials.

    Committee members are:
    Sen. Peter C. Knudson, Chair
    Sen. D. Chris Buttars
    Sen. John W. Hickman
    Sen. Scott K. Jenkins
    Sen. Scott D. McCoy
    Sen. Ross I. Romero

Please let us know how it goes. I would like to come support it but to short of notice with work.

How do you find out about such things? So I can plan in the future for attendance.

SB 67 passed out of committee with a favorable recommendation on a 6-2 vote.

    Yeas - 4
    Buttars, D. C.
    Hickman, J.
    Jenkins, S.
    Knudson, P.
    Nays - 2
    McCoy, S.
    Romero, R.
It now goes to the full Senate floor for a vote and then to the House for committee and floor votes there.

You can sign up for GOUtah! alerts at www.goutahorg.org or by PMing me your email address. Additionally, you can go to the legislative web page at www.le.state.ut.us, going to bills, and then looking at the bills for the current session. There is an option at the bottom of the page to sign up for email alerts when various items related to the bill changes.

This bill's home page, for example, is <http://le.utah.gov/~2008/htmdoc/sbillhtm/sb0067.htm>. Links from there give all the relevant info on the bill you might want except for committe audio which is accessed via the committee page at <http://www.le.state.ut.us/asp/interi...=2#Results>.

The bill's home page will contain a status link which will show you which committees have heard the bill. Sadly, this does not link to the committee page, so then navigate your way to the committee's page and listen to audio if you like. In this case at <http://www.le.state.ut.us/asp/interi...Com=SSTGOP> Usually available within 24 hours of the hearing ending, and many committees will stream live audio from the list of "What's Happening today" at the bottom of the legislative main home page.

I had signed up for the e-mail alerts. Somehow they were getting deleted in the junk mail box. Got that fixed now. Thanks for the update.
