RESTAURANT BAN REPEAL TO BE HEARD IN SENATE MONDAY!
Senator Hanger's Restaurant Ban Repeal bill, SB 476, is going to be
heard in the Senate Courts of Justice committee Monday morning at 8:30
AM! If you can turn out for this hearing, it would be great to pack
the hearing room with "Guns Save Lives" buttons! The meeting will be
on the ground floor of the General Assembly Building, SE corner of 9th
and Broad streets, in Senate Room A.
Other gun bills to be heard in that committee:
SB 332, Senator Cuccinelli's bill to protect CHP holder information
from dissemination if the CHP holder requests the information be kept
private.
SB 436, Senator Vogel's bill to allow possession of a loaded firearm
in a vehicle if it is in a locked container or compartment. This bill
does NOT affect CHP holders. We want the "locked" requirement removed.
SB 529, Senator Houck's bill to protect CHP holder information from
dissemination.
SB 730, Senator Smith's bill to protect CHP holder information from
dissemination, except to firearms advocacy groups.
SB 759, Senator Ruff's bill to protect CHP holder information from
dissemination.
SB 776, Senator Hurt's bill to allow Commonwealth Attorneys to carry
off-duty without a permit. VCDL opposes this bill as it makes yet
another "class" of gun owners. Commonwealth Attorneys can get a CHP
for off-duty carry. They can carry by the same rules that everyone
else does - including having to open carry in restaurants and being
banned from carry on K-12 school property. Their lives are not less
important, but also not more important, than your life or mine.

Delegate Janis' Castle Doctrine bill, HB 710, will be heard in the
full House Courts of Justice committee on Monday afternoon.
VCDL is changing the status of Delegate Nutter's bill to close the CHP
list from publication. HB 982 is being changed from STRONGLY SUPPORT
to NEUTRAL, as it was modified in the House Militia, Police and Public
Safety committee on Friday to shut out access by gun organizations,
while leaving the same information available from Circuit Courts.
Thus, while this would stop the Roanoke Times from publishing a CHP
database, the Fredericksburg Freelance-Star and other papers will be
able to continue publishing CHP holder information by getting it from
the Circuit Courts, as they currently are doing.
VCDL will now concentrate on Senate versions of the bill to protect
the CHP list. There are two bills that are better than HB 982 over
there - SB 730 and SB 332 (see top of this alert).

MORE LIES FROM THE BRADYS
In an attempt to panic their members, the Brady Campaign is lying
about Delegate Janis' Castle Doctrine bill.
The Bradys are saying:
"...a bill that would allow a gun owner to shoot and kill another
person in public areas, even if their life were not in danger."
The bill is very short and easy to read, but they get it wrong. Your
RESIDENCE is NOT A PUBLIC AREA for crying out loud! If someone is
skulking around, uninvited, in your house and makes an overt act
towards you which makes you feel that your life is threatened, then
you are immune from a civil lawsuit if you have to use deadly force to
protect yourself or your family.
