Hmm...sitting with your family enjoying a Sunday evening bite to eat, maybe catching some of the Super Bowl game on the TV in the bar, when lead starts flying around the place. I couldn't even begin to imagine how incredibly helpless and vulnerable that must feel to look across the table at the faces of your terrified family with nothing more than a fork and dull butter knife at your disposal for defense.

I may not be the most analytical person in the world, but I would believe that driving down the road, walking in the mall, eating at a restaurant, and simply leaving the confines of one's home is "GOOD AND SUNSTANTIAL REASON." Of course, a shooting at a family eatery is just more reason for Maryland to impose more stringent firearm regulations...like it can get worse here.

In order to legally carry a firearm for self-defense in the State of Maryland, one must prove to the Maryland State Police that the personapplying for a permit"has good and substantial reason to wear, carry, or transport a handgun, such as a finding that the permit is necessary as a reasonable precaution against apprehended danger."
(that's quoted from Maryland Public Safety Article §5–306 found online at http://mlis.state.md.us/asp/web_statutes.asp?gps&5-306)

    Echo6tango,

You sound frustrated...the way you talk it soundsas ifMaryland has undocumented subjective standards, and their decision to grant or not grant you a permit is based on a secret ouija board type process.

    Hmmm. I think your right.

    Ah, I'll be okay

I just think it's so insane that I can legally openly or concealed carry in the majority of the States in the U.S. except the State that I live in, vote in, pay taxes to, etc...

My hopes are high for HB2 (repeal finding requirement), but if it doesn't even get heard this year like so many more from previous years...the frustration will return! Who the heck decides which bill is heard in what order? I would LOVE to see the bill put up for a vote by referendum so that the people of the State can decide their own future.

    Have a safe week!
