Would you trade your firearm for a Taser?

Considering we live in this 21st century and who knows a Democrat President [possibly the Illinois senator who argued against the Constitutional law of the 2nd Amendment or the New York Socialist Wench] may outlaw firearms illegally [To their detriment, IMHO]. Would you trade your gun for a Taser-like weapon? Or would you turn to an alternative source like coil guns or black powder? Or would simple old-fashioned melee weapons make a return? What do you think? And why are we getting presidential nominees from the most Anti-Gun states? Where is our Alaskan, Floridian, or Vermontian republitarian leaning presidential candidate?

[I know, I know, your thinking where did he come up for the idea for this whimsical topic, and I was reading my CCH text last night and it only covers firearms, NOT tasers, martial arts weapons, law enforcement batons, etc.].

However, I would like to have one as a alternative, less lethal, for crowd control. I can carry Mace, but not my gun in places of alcohol consumption, and having a way to control a rowdy patron as a bouncer would be advantagous.

Well, the president doesn't make the laws (thankfully), so I don't think it's as clear-cut as President Clinton II=confiscation, even if she'd like that. Still, even if some aliens beamed all the guns off the planet, I don't see carrying a taser. That said, I'm a chemist by training, so I could probably come up with a solution, so to speak.

No. I have stated in my other posts my disdain for less lethal alternatives. It seems to give the excuse ofturning a confrontation that is escapable into a physical altercation. If someone acts like they want to get physical with me, I will leave. If they continue to push the issue and I fear for my safety, I will use whatever force necessary to end the situation. That being said, I carry three types of defensive weapons at all times. A gun, a knife, and a pair of steel-toed boots. No tasers. No pepper juice. No clubs.

Simple answer, no. LTL alternatives are not on my agenda. If I would get in a physical confrontation (something that hasn't happened in many years and I don't intend to have happen again) I have my body and martial arts for that. If it goes past that point, I have my pistol. I prefer to continue not needing any of the above for that purpose.

I used to have my body and martial arts for that too. Knees and backs and things like that get creaky after a while. Besides, just like someone on here once said, never pick a fight with an old guy. They'll just shoot you dead.

As many of you know,I will not support breaking the law. But like everyone, I have a line in the sand. My line in the sand is not the same as everyone else's, but banning guns is beyond crossing it. I will carry a gun for the rest of my life, regardless of what any politician says, because it is my God-given right, and as an American citizen, it is a protected right under the constitution. I'll be the bigger man and not go to National Parks or bars, but there comes a point when I will not obey an unconstitutional law. I don't like how far we've been pushed, but I will accept the current laws and obey them. There may come a time in my life that guns are banned, and it will be a sad day, because it will be the day that I am forced by my government to be a criminal. There may come a day, like there was in New Orleans, when the police come toour doors to disarmus at gunpoint. It will also be a sad day, because it will be the day that our government has forced us to become murderers. I may not speak for all of us, but I speak for myself when I say that they can have my gun when they pry it from my cold, dead hands.

There's one very strange thing I noticed when looking at these a while back:

There is a taser company from which I would never purchase a taser. It is a projectile type taser with contact tasing capability as well, but it leaves ID tags all over the place when you fire it so that it can be traced back to the "owner." I guess this could be good or bad, but I wouldn't want it personally.

I think this will probably prevent the average person from using it when not necessary, but I also can imagine this becoming a nightmare in other circumstances. Also, it probably wont prevent the illegal use of a lost/stolen taser.

I think it speaks a great deal toward their integrity as a company. I still don't plan to get one, but I wish that more companies operated like that.

I wish firearms manufacturers would send replacement/rental weapons to those of us who have to use our guns in self defense and they are still confiscated by the police.

I'm almost certain that this may be Davidson's offer, and not necessarily that company, although if it is that's great. I mostly provided the link because it shows the ID tags that it sprays everywhere.

Davidson's does offer lifetime replacement warranties on firearms too. I ordered one from there, but I seem to be running into a few difficulties. It went to the retailer yesterday, and they "weren't there" according to FedEx. According to them, they were there but they didn't have a certified check, which they apparently needed. Then the person I spoke with last night said someone would get it last night and have it ready for me today. I called this morning, after noticing that it was still at the FedEx location. They said that regardless of whether it was shipped back to the store, they would have it ready for me today. I called again at about 2:30 and spoke to a manager. It is still, as of right now, indicated as sitting at FedEx in the same city. It's been there all day, and nobody has called me back to inform me about what their plan for obtaining it is yet.

Edit: I called once more, and they said that someone relatively high up, the VP I believe, left a while ago to drop off some stuff at fed-ex, and they may be retreiving the item. The person I spoke with wasn't sure if the item would be brought back today or tomorrow though, and they weren't sure about when it will make it if it comes tomorrow, so I guess we'll see what happens.

Edit 2: They just called back, and it has arrived at the store. Customer = satisfied.
