"if it bleeds, it leads...."

sad - but how often is there footage available of an OCer (or CCer) either preventing a crime / stopping one?

Even if there were, it would be viewed as a non-event by the liberal media.

Not true.

MSM never seems to miss a chance to admonish the great unwashed masses that one should not take maters into their own hands and should rely upon poilce to keep you safe.

And when I watched the news last night I heard about the shooting at the city council meeting in Missouri... It went out on the VCDL Legislative update late last night, too.

To be honest, I'm amazed that this doesn't happen more often than it does. Who says a supervisors meeting is a safe place.

Every locality I know of, has a colorful local that causes constant aggravation at the meetings. Some justified, some not.

I don't know what he got 150 tickets for but that's difficult to do...so it may well be that the local cops were targeting him, or the local building inspector or even the dogcatcher.

Take a person who is disturbed or just stressed to the edge, add a petty group of local legislators and maybe throw in a handful of local cops that like to count coup,
and the fellow may well snap.

I started adding the other ones right as you were posting this... Maybe the news is picking them up more now than before or there are just a string of them going on.

I think I might start keeping track of all shootings in gun-free zones. Next time someone asks me about shootings and why they happen or what could have been done to prevent them, I can show them the list and explain what gun-free zones do to the law abiding citizen. Is there some sort of listing of all (or most of) the shootings that take place in gun-free zones already out there somewhere?

It's a long list - about 80 (not counting suicides and attacks with other weapons) from May 1994 to present and that's just the schools and colleges. I know that sometime in 1994, Clinton signed thefree kill zone (aka gun free zone)bill, but don't know when it went into effect.

I've been putting together a list for a couple of months. Seems like it's growing faster that I can list them.

I E-Mailed Philip Van Cleave about this, and I am going to provide a list to him in October of all the gun free zone shootings to present to the General Assembly. If you could PM me with the ones you have, I will keep a list. I will try to put it in chronological order so that he can pick out a time frame, and use what he needs.

Edit:

I just saw an article on cnn.com that has people discussing the recent shootings:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/02/15/niu.irpt/index.html

It is quite interesting and surprising that CNN would have a couple of people telling the truth!

"Wayne Ellis of Allen, Texas
This is a perfect example to support
allowing licensed people to carry guns on college campuses and even into classrooms as well as everywhere else. This shooter would have been killed before he could have gotten off more than two shots if other people there had been allowed to legally carry weapons. As the old cliché goes: "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns." The restrictions on law-abiding citizens made them all easy prey for this or any other crazed shooter."

"Richard Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma
The shootings are happening on school campuses because we are allowing them to. These are called "gun-free or safety zones." The problem is that the shooters go there because they know that security is usually lax or nonexistent, and that there will not be anybody else with weapons.

Regardless of what gun-control advocates believe, the evidence is clear, not only in this country but elsewhere in the world: You can have all the bans you want against guns; criminals do not care. Some say the answer is more security.
Although I support this idea, the fact remains that security cannot be in all places at all times. And usually by the time they respond it is too late. Like it or not, if law-abiding citizens are allowed to arm themselves for protection, they are in a better position to stop these shooters. Also, if shooters realize that private citizens are allowed to carry weapons in these so-called "gun-free or safety zones," they will not be so quick to go there. Again! Why do you think it is mainly happening on school campuses and in places where guns are banned?"

Security is also most likely the first to get shot. As happened at the US capitol years ago. Guy walks up to the metal detector, it goes off, he shoots guard, two IIRC.

So even guards are not as safe as you might think.

Yup. The shooter in Kirkwood, MO shot 2 LEOs before engaging the disarmed citizens in that council room.
