Shortly before 1 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, police responded to Milano’s Restaurant at 6961 Hechinger Drive for a possible shot person. Officers arrived and met with a 23-year-old Centreville-area man who works as an armed security guard at Milano’s. The guard responded to a fight in the bar area of the restaurant. He was escorting one of the men involved outside and was jumped by three to four other men, one wielding a knife. Fearing for his life, the guard pulled his weapon and fired one round, striking the man with the knife in the abdomen. The suspects ceased the assault, picked their cohort up and fled in a van. The guard sustained non life-threatening injuries.A short time later, officers located the van in front of 5227 Cather Road in Springfield, occupied by three men, including the shot person. Rescue transported the wounded man to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he eventually succumbed to his wound. Yordy Adaud Salguero Urmeneta, 27, of 5227 Cather Road in Springfield was pronounced dead on Thursday, February 21 at approximately 5 a.m. [/align]
No charges have been placed and the investigation will continue into all aspects of this incident.
