I agree that proper awareness may prevent a gun being put in your face, but what if it doesn't or one makes a mistake? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I have some crystal ball that tells me when I'll be attacked. What I mean is that during a confrontation, by the time a gun is aimed at you, it's too late in most cases to take action to defend yourself. If you draw when your attacker reaches for his gun, for instance, it will avoid the gun-in-one's-face dilemma. It should never get so far that one is faced with a situation like in the OP unless one is unarmed... IMHO, of course
