As you may have noticed, I have not posted in a long while. As to why I do not know, but I have been reading and keeping up with all of the activity here.
As Indy had mentioned, I recently purchased my own firearm. Overall, my experience was great.
My search began as I called Indianaboy up to see if he would be interested in joining me, as it was he who 'brought me into this world'. First we checked at Boise Gun Co., just off of Vtrns Memorial and Chinden, as Indy had some great experiences there.
My target: A Ruger SP101 .357 revolver, 'hammerless' in a 2" or 3", preferably new (yes, influenced by Indianaboy's recomendation and my reseaching).
Boise Gun had the 2" but it had a full hammer on it, instead of the bobbed model, as well as a used 4" that had an aftermarket bobbing job, among other AM mods, that used, put it at about 150% the cost of one new-stock. I browsed their holster/accesory selection, and picked up a 5 rnd speedloader for my yet to be purchased revolver.
We then proceeded in the direction of Cabelas/Impact guns, on the way called Impact to see if one was in stock, as we knew Cabelas had one the week prior. After a negative response, Cabelas it was. Indy OC'd in with no issues.
After the proper paperwork and whatnot (kinda took me back to filling out my high school SAT forms) as the clerk went to prepare my purchase, I found a good GALCO concealment rig, and picked out a candidate for my open carry holster, also made by GALCO once more funds were available. Also grabbed some MAGTECH 38+P JHPs as their .357 selection at the time was quite limited.
After purchasing, the clerk then began proceeding to escort me out with my purchase as Indy chimed in, 'great, go ahead and strap her on and we will continue to look around' (or something to that extent). After re-entering, a clerk asked what calibers we were carrying. He was very supportive.
We then took my accompainents dog for a look see in petsmart to give him a stretch. A very comfortable place, and many of the patrons were okay with our presence there, even letting their children pet the puppy, after they noticed that we were armed.
Last stop: Impact for a bit of windowshopping, as we heard they had a Colt Python in stock. Sadly to our disappointment, the rumor was just that. Great place, would definatly like to pop a few rounds through some of their demo models to try some various firearms out.
Since then, I just received my GALCO OTB holster from Ruger (happened to be the same model I liked at Cabelas, but with a Ruger emblem stamping) about a week ago and am very content with my purchase, although UPS left it at my front door while I was recovering from the graveyard shift from the night before.
I have OC'd into the Garden City Starbucks on Glenwood a couple of times, once the day I received my OTB and again this morning after another night shift. Both great experiences. Today, it was much busier than before. The crew there definately noticed my SP101 but made no mention of it, they were very polite. I sat and read the morning paper for about an hour and enjoyed a cinnamon dolce mocha (as they discontinued the normal cinnamon syrup - tasted like a cinnamon roll in a cup!). A few customers also noticed, but most were in and out and off to the busy life.
It is now march and I am itching to get some shots off, so lets get planning on a OC get together! - I will get a pic up of my SP101 once I can. -
