As you may have noticed, I have not posted in a long while. As to why I do not know, but I have been reading and keeping up with all of the activity here.

As Indy had mentioned, I recently purchased my own firearm. Overall, my experience was great.
My search began as I called Indianaboy up to see if he would be interested in joining me, as it was he who 'brought me into this world'. First we checked at Boise Gun Co., just off of Vtrns Memorial and Chinden, as Indy had some great experiences there.

My target: A Ruger SP101 .357 revolver, 'hammerless' in a 2" or 3", preferably new (yes, influenced by Indianaboy's recomendation and my reseaching).
Boise Gun had the 2" but it had a full hammer on it, instead of the bobbed model, as well as a used 4" that had an aftermarket bobbing job, among other AM mods, that used, put it at about 150% the cost of one new-stock. I browsed their holster/accesory selection, and picked up a 5 rnd speedloader for my yet to be purchased revolver.

We then proceeded in the direction of Cabelas/Impact guns, on the way called Impact to see if one was in stock, as we knew Cabelas had one the week prior. After a negative response, Cabelas it was. Indy OC'd in with no issues.
After the proper paperwork and whatnot (kinda took me back to filling out my high school SAT forms) as the clerk went to prepare my purchase, I found a good GALCO concealment rig, and picked out a candidate for my open carry holster, also made by GALCO once more funds were available. Also grabbed some MAGTECH 38+P JHPs as their .357 selection at the time was quite limited.

After purchasing, the clerk then began proceeding to escort me out with my purchase as Indy chimed in, 'great, go ahead and strap her on and we will continue to look around' (or something to that extent). After re-entering, a clerk asked what calibers we were carrying. He was very supportive.

We then took my accompainents dog for a look see in petsmart to give him a stretch. A very comfortable place, and many of the patrons were okay with our presence there, even letting their children pet the puppy, after they noticed that we were armed.

Last stop: Impact for a bit of windowshopping, as we heard they had a Colt Python in stock. Sadly to our disappointment, the rumor was just that. Great place, would definatly like to pop a few rounds through some of their demo models to try some various firearms out.

Since then, I just received my GALCO OTB holster from Ruger (happened to be the same model I liked at Cabelas, but with a Ruger emblem stamping) about a week ago and am very content with my purchase, although UPS left it at my front door while I was recovering from the graveyard shift from the night before.

I have OC'd into the Garden City Starbucks on Glenwood a couple of times, once the day I received my OTB and again this morning after another night shift. Both great experiences. Today, it was much busier than before. The crew there definately noticed my SP101 but made no mention of it, they were very polite. I sat and read the morning paper for about an hour and enjoyed a cinnamon dolce mocha (as they discontinued the normal cinnamon syrup - tasted like a cinnamon roll in a cup!). A few customers also noticed, but most were in and out and off to the busy life.

It is now march and I am itching to get some shots off, so lets get planning on a OC get together! - I will get a pic up of my SP101 once I can. -

Thanks everyone for your support of mine and our right to carry!

just checking in, havent been too active in the forums, but i have been with my OC

visited many places, having no significant issues, just a few concerns from some questioning friends of mine, none really negative.

had a chance to go with indy to his spot and blow some caps off some waterbottles ^_^ very fun. a friend of indianaboy's and her two children accompanied us, and we had a great oppourtunity to share safe gun handling and firing with a boy who had shown high interest in guns, whos mother was wanting his first real experience to be a positive one, his sister had fun too

a question that i have had regarding open carry in an automobile:
i carry a holster on the rearward area of my strongside, which, whilst driving, nestles very comfortably into my seat, mostly out of sight from my window view. should i remove it and place it in an obviously open area, and what would be a 'safe' place in the event of an LEO encounter? also would this be a legal issue or more a 'dont want to upset or have stepped on an officer's personal understanding of what is open (like what saint ran into one night)', also at night should i take additional precautions?

thanks everyone- its getting warmer, lets get together soon!
(anyone golf/ know any OC friendly/non-prohibit clubs?)

So, alot has happened since my last OC post:
my 3rd (and seemingly final) walmart encounter, and a huge HUGE event that made headline news

so, to just jump to the good news!

Today was just great, (minus cameras :? always odd seeing myself on tv)
i am glad to see that it was held in a positive light rather than look at the weirdos going to the zoo haha
indy and i spoke with a fellow who seemed genuinely interested in our actions, and seemed to understand where we came from

after the awesome food at lucky 13, Gryphon, Indianaboy and I stopped by walmart to grab some ammo and digital recorders and see how things are there
we entered through the grocery side and was politely greeted by an employee
upon noticing us being armed, he informed us that it was against the stores policy to allow us any further. we let him know that this had already been clarified with upper management and that corporate policy allowed us to continue in the store, but were more than willing to wait there as a manager was called to clarify
as we waited, a woman customer came up and let us know that it was illegal for us to carry into stores unless we were "commisioned officers". we tried to politely inform her that her understanding of the law was incorrect, and that we indeed could carry into stores legaly, and that walmart also approves of us carrying in. she then told us that we were in fact incorrect, as she knew, because she was a commisioned officer. (should have gotten her name and badge number, if she was indeed LEO)
she then called Indianaboy a "pompus punk" and let us know that she was just "helping the greeter". indy then asked if we had ever threatened him.

indiana asked if we could please speak with JR, and the greeter let us know that someone was on their way that could forward that request, and we thanked him. shortly after, a supervisor apporached and after understanding the situation, said that "we cant stop them" and we thanked them all for their time.

alas we couldnt find any recorders we liked, so we picked up the ammo (and did not get offered express escourt service!) and made our way to the same side we entered on, and visited with our greeter (sorry i dont recall your name :() and it was al around a positive interaction, and hopefully we will have some people check OCDO out (or at least someone will brush up on their gun law knowledge before representing LE)

all around, a GREAT day for OCers in Idaho, and throughout our nation

Blackfox - Sure must get lonely out there in Idaho as nobody else seems to chime in. Try having an OC dinner (be sure to check laws re alcohol being served etc) and let us knowe how it went. Appreciate your support and help with the education process.

We are not exactly bored here in Virginia either. Good luck with your efforts - check out the Va. section sometime.
