Flickr has been giving me fits all day trying to upload photos. Here is a profile of the "good" side of the SA I just got. Once I get the other pics uploaded, I'll add them.

Here is where someone did something unspeakable on the slide. I'll need to take a buffing wheel to that to fix it. I think I will have the old blueing stripped and parkerize the whole gun.

The guy calls it a "smith and wesson 357 collectible"

LOL
I emailed him asking for more details. I'll offer $50 for it if I'm feeling generous. Probably found it in his attic and when no gunshop would buy a broken gun from him, lists it on CL...

My dad had a S&W like that long ago that he use to carry all the time in a jacket pocket. It came with a backup that shot the 38 shorty . Neither gun had a serial number but were clearly stamped S&W. The .38 spent its life in the tackle box.

Ordered a set of USGI surplus rubber grips (for all the wonderful dry days we have here) and a Colt mag from 1911PartsPlus.com so will be able to take this thing out soon and put some rounds through it.

Now that I have discovered the wonderful world of 1911's, does anyone have a USGI holster they care to sell? USGI mag pouches? I've got a bunch of surplus webgear and might as well get the stuff for the 1911 to go with it...

SV,
You made me LOL here thinking back to when I turned in the extra mags after Desert Storm (M1A1 tanker assigned a 1911). I carried a "special" mag pouch not according to the regs which was strapped to the upper harness on my shoulder strap. I dropped the 1st 2 mags off the belt into the basket, then grabbed the other two and dropped them in. The ammo officer picks up the second pair and holds them up. They were filled with jacketed hollow points not ball ammo.

A lot of those were Spanish copies and often imitated S&W markings....

The guy on CL selling this writes back and tells me it says "Secret Service Special" on it...

Well, if it helps, you weren't in violation of the laws and customs of warfare. The relevant treaty is the Declaration (IV, 3) concerning Expanding Bullets (appended to the Convention of The Hague of 1899). It's an agreement based on reciprocity; that is, it's only illegal for the parties to use expanding bullets on each other. And Iraq never signed that treaty.

Of course, I can't speak with regard to the UCMJ...
