Police say the robbery was a "smash and grab" procedure that lasted only a minute and 15 seconds.

After 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, two suspects broke through the glass door at Dance's Sporting Goods.

We are told one of the suspect smashed the showcases with a hammer, while the other suspect loaded the guns into a bag behind him.

Police say the suspects stole between 30 and 40 weapons, mostly handguns and a few assault-style rifles.

Colonial Heights detectives are working with the ATF to solve the case. Captain Keith Early with the Colonial Heights Police Department says, "Our detectives are doing a thorough investigation. They're contacting other surrounding jurisdictions as well as putting this out statewide. We're concerned about these weapons of course on the black market and in the hands of criminals."

Captain Early also says the suspect's injury may be a clue. "There was blood found inside of the business and a blood trail leading outside to the rear parking lot, so we're looking for two suspects -- one of them with a fresh cut on a hand or arm."

Dance's is compiling a list of the guns with their serial numbers and police have issued a statewide alert.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Crime Solvers at 748-0660.
