Is a holster required?

Ok this is probably my 100th question I asked since I became a member less than a month ago but I bought a holster online a while ago and they said they can't ship without more info. And there is only 4 business days to go until open carry on the 27th! I asked them to overnight it but they haven't responded yet.

My question to you is, is there an actual law that says you have to have a holster. Is it ok to be in my pants as long as its extremely visible and not concealed at all?

Definitely best to have a holster. The attorney general opinion that defines OC as not brandishing mentions holsters.

What kind of gun do you have? Shouldn't be too hard to find a holster that would fit. Dunhams, Dicks, army/navy stores, they'll all probably have holsters that will fit.

Just the same, if you don't have a holster, it's not essential that you OC. Remember, we like to be armed, that's what we're about, but the picnic is about meeting people.

I would only carry it with a holster. It will not only keep the gun more secure, but also more protected and not as "concealed."

I have a 1911 with a 4 inch barrel. I have a small of the back holster but thats for concealment when I get my CCW. If someone did have a holster I could borrow for a couple of hours while I was there that would be great. I would have to meet them at a private buisness and then they would have to walk me back to my jeep.

Would there be any way to use is as a strong or cross side holster with your shirt tucked in? I'm guessing it's one of the ones that holds it with the barrel more or less parallel to the ground, and if that's the case, I've certainly seem plenty of gun shop employees OC with that kind of holster on their sides. It's an effective means of carry that allows for a very fast draw.

For you, not yet having your CPL, all it has to do to be legal is hold it to the outside of your belt, and meet the general definition of a holster. Everything else is a matter of preference.

Ok so its ok to be on the small of my back as long as my shirt is tight and not covering my gun or holster in any way. If thats the case, then I have no problem. Thanks for helping! Brandon

Yep that would be fine. I myself would put it on my side so it would be closer to my arm, and easier to control, but if you're more comfortable with having it on your back, that will work too.
