The National Parks are about to change the rule to allow people with concealed permit who can carry in State Parksto carry in National Parks. Basically they are trying to mirror state laws for National Parks, but only for concealed carry. It is an open comment period NOW. Please go to www. regulations.gov and search for 1024-AD70 under comments. This will open the public comment page for this proposed new rule. Tell them you want open carry to be mirrored, too. States that allow open carry in their state parks and have National Parks within the state, should have the same law for both open carry and concealed carry in National Parks within that state.

The proposed rule does not require a permit to conceal in parks - it does require that the person be able to conceal on similar units of state land, whatever that means.

Commenters should tell DOI to drop both the concealed and the similar unit of state land requirements, and simply adopt the Forest Service rule assimilating state gun law onto federal land.

That meansif your State allows concealed carry in its State Parks, then the DOI will allow you to carry concealed in the National Parks in your State. If your State does not allow concealed carry in its State Parks, then concealed carry will be a no go in the National Parks in your State.

Maybe, maybe not. What if a "regional park" near a national park bans CC? What id the state has no "state park" - the whole thing is too vague to be true.

I believe the DOI intended to confuse the issue with lawyer speak. It would have been simple to mirror federal forest rules but they decided to complicate it. It is a sham because some beurocrat is anti-gun for law abiding citizens.

"First, the state in which the park or refuge unit is located must have laws that allow the individual to possess concealed and loaded firearms."

If you are in one of the few states that don't allow concealed carry at all, then you are out of luck in the National Parks.

And second, the authorization to carry a concealed and loaded firearm must be applicable on the analogous state lands in the State in which the park or refuge is
located.

A regional park (county, city, or other non-state "regional" park) doesn't count as "state lands". Analogous state lands would be state run parks or refuges. Nothing more nothing less.

Please nameone single state that doesn't have a State Park. I don't think there are any.

The NRA is paranoic about passing strong laws and like the timid approach of permits and so forth.... We need to stay on top of our friends at the NRA and let them know the country is ready for strong laws that uphold our constitutional rights not little politically correct changes. In many open carry states the NRA is passing laws to open up more places to carrying, but only for permit holders and concealed carry.... I spoke to several of their lobbyists about this issue and they acknowledge they are affraid that a stronger law just wouldn't pass....
