I was invited to appear on the Sue Henry show on WILK Newsradio this morning (http://www.wilknewsradio.com).
About 5 minutes into the interview, Dickson City police chief William Stadnitski called in and we spent the rest of the hour talking about and debating the incident. While he supported his officers, he seemed reasonable and the debate was polite and professional.
We also spoke about the Council meeting tonight and I made sure he understood state preemption and the inability of the Council to prohibit lawful carry at their meetings.
He indicated that Rich could come and get his gun any time he wished but had not done so.
He also seemed very certain that ALL guns are registered through the ATF. I tried to correct that misconception but in that venue, I am not sure the message was received.
He said that he had spoken with OCDO's Washington state rep (which I assume was Lonnie ) about the training bulletins they had done and seemed genuinely interested in doing something similar. He also pointed out that PA state update-training should have a section on open carry added. I think that is a great idea and we will need to look into how to get that accomplished.
Now ... it is up to those of you who are speaking tonight to be eloquent and professional in your presentation of our grievances. I think that the talk show host had expected us to reflect the media's stereotypes of gun owners and was (I believe) pleasantly surprised to find that gun owners can be calm, dispassionate, professional and articulate.
PS. Thanks to all the gun owners who called in or emailed her in support of our cause while we were on the air!!!
PPS. I don't think her show has an audio archive.
PPPS. Did anyone get to hear it live? How did you think it went?

WILK's Sue Henry launched the story yesterdayabout an incidentthat happened Friday in Dickson City. Police were called to the Old Country Buffet, where a number of people....sidearms showing...were having dinner.
One of them..Rich Banks, ended up under arrest and a weapon was confiscated after he refused to cooperate with the cops.
The packing patrons were members of "Open Carry-dot-org"...they promote the fact that you're allowed to carry an exposed firearm under most circumstances....unlike carrying a concealed weapon. The incident was in the spotlight at last night's Dickson City Boro council meeting.
Earlier in the day police chief William Stadnitski joined Corbett on WILK...he says his officers made the right call when they took the call.[/align]
