Like it or not, you are going to find this policy in any MLB park you go to. It is part of the franchise agreement. Some teams will have lesser and some more stringent policy in place. Be that as it may, that is the way it is for now. Blame the Baseball Commissioners, they set the security standards for the ball parks.

How do I know? I work for the Mariners and up to the 2005 season I was in a front office supervisory position. I left for 2 years and am back now in a better spot.

As far as the quality of the people they hire, of the 1500 +/- employees, who by the way, are ALL on a first name basis with the ownership group, a goodly portion are those of disability, retired, mentally challenged who for various reasons are unable to find employment elsewhere.

The last time I was at Safeco (Mariners' game last summer), they didn't pat me down at all. I just went straight through the gates with everybody else.

I wasn't carrying at the time, but it seems to me that it would be trivially easy to do so.

Whether we like it or not, stadiums such as Safeco field may be "Owned" by the city/county but are LEASED to teams that occupy them. During the dates of the Lease the Team has total control of the facility (just like you do with a leased car or a leased apartment). They have the right to make the rules just as if it was private property.
