"trained to track down killers and other violent criminals"

That sounds... interesting. Unfortunately, the media is unwilling to assume that I'm literate enough to read text, and I'm unwilling to watch video clips of spoon-fed news.

I wonder what scent they key off of?

I go shooting in the morning's before work sometime.

My car often time smells like a freshly cleaned gun.

I have a bag that I carry my guns in then swap it out to go to work.

How many false positives while the dogs return on me?

Thank you Mr. Huffman and NSL.

It truly is amazing to see the huge amount of firepower available in DC. Too bad none of it is used to protect the poor unarmed folks that live there. It must be "good to be the king".

Yeah, so I know my car has GPR (gun powder residue) in the trunk area, the passenger seat, and the drivers seat. I know this to be the case because I throw dirty guns in the trunk area and the passenger seat, and my holstered gun (that I just shot at the range) rubs on the driver seat (the dirty barrel part) when I drive. I've seen GPR residue marks on the drivers seat so I *know* I'd get a hit from those dogs.

Those dogs are probably trained to hit on either nitrocellulose, nitroglycerin, or nitroguanidine. Anyone who shoots guns or transports them in their vehicle have trace amounts (detectable by dogs) present, or in my case, you can actually SEE the residue. Let's not forget that nitroglycerin is used by people with heart problems.

So... I can drive into DC and if they employ those dogs on my car, they're gonna get a hit. Then, based on a signal that an animal gave them, they have PC to rip my car apart looking for those evil illegal guns.
