First; we aren't "texting" here so use that little key down on the right or left side of your keyboard called "Shift" and then use the little icon on the tool bar that is a check mark with ABC over the check, called "spell Checker" and then people who read your post will automatically think your IQ is about 20 points higher.

Second; there is no registration in the state of Utah so you have no worry there, BUT you can and will get in trouble if you do not have a CFP and you carry your gun concealed or openly and loaded.

You can carry your gun openly if it is Utah unloaded (two actions from firing) and not have a problem.

If you told us more about how you carry it and your permit status, it will help us better answer your questions.

Maybe. It's not clear if he thinks there's a legal requirement to be 21 or if he just doesn't want to sell to anyone under 21.

I guess it only matters for me until August 12, the last day I will be able to possess a privately owned firearm, until after I'm 21. Then I'm getting me a nice one.

ETA: To clear up what I mean, I'm shipping to BCT on August 12, and privately owned firearms are not allowed on a military base. At AIT, where I will be for a year after BCT, I will not be able to buy or keep my firearms with me.

Most bases provide storage facilities for while you're living there. That won't be an option for BCT, but for a year-long AIT you should be able to have a gun while you're there that you can take to the range or whatever when you have liberty.

What MOS are you going into?

68K? I'll have to check my paperwork, but it's Medical Laboratory Specialist.

I'm going to have to check to see if Ft Sam Houston has a storage facility for them. I would love to be able to go shoot my own stuff while there. But I would have to go to an off base range.

Hope for me after all?

Most, if not all military installations have an arms room. Not sure if they will let you use them during initial entry training though.

Okay, so IET is both BCT and AIT? Nobody has clarified this for me. I know what they stand for

Initial Entry Training

Basic Combat Training

Advanced Individual Training Right?

Please clarify.

The number wouldn't mean anything to me anyway. I was an Air Force guy and I almost typed "AFSC" instead of "MOS". :)

As a lab specialist I doubt you'll get too much range time on duty, so I hope they allow you to keep a private weapon at Ft Sam Houston.

Hmm. Just for kicks I plugged "fort sam houston arms room" into Google and it found this. Apparently for students in the 68V course (Respiratory Specialists), the rule is:

Students arriving with privately owned firearms would report to the Provost Marshall's Office within 24 hours after arrival or procurement of a firearm. Personal firearms and ammunition are NOT authorized in the barracks at any time. Personnel living in the barracks must store privately owned firearms in the Center Brigade Arms room, Bldg. 902
Sounds like there shouldn't be any trouble, unless respiratory specialists get better treatment than lab specialists.

Yes, IET is both combined. Usually soldiers don't get many privileges until after IET. If your wife moves to texas with you, you may just have use the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy with your weapons.

Even with long AITs? In the AF, tech schools mostly start out with very limited privileges (though it feels like a lot compared to Basic), but gradually loosen up. So short tech schools (like mine -- the SP Academy was only six weeks) never give you much freedom, but long schools eventually become almost like regular active duty.
