Time to start one thread of all the interesting or shocking crime stories from Nevada, including the many that one never hears about.

First off, this nut who I guess figures that warning shots firedthrough an open sun roof will deter pedestrians from following him?! (How fast were those pedestrians running!!??):what:

On a much more worrisome note, a co-worker of mine had her 24 year old son severely beaten Sat. night outside of one of Renos' casinos. This is a married, father of two, professional who works at Renown. The guy is 6'3" and well over 200lbs, very muscular and was still jumped by several guys. He was beaten unconcious, his ankle was broken in several places and required four hours of surgery with pins to put it back together again. My co-worker is new to the area and didn't remember which casino, but there are so many incidents like this that are never seen in the paper or on T.V. It's just another good reason to carry in Reno!

I don't know how reliable the source (or their political agenda), but thought this was interesting:

http://www.infoplease.com/toptens/dangerous-states-2007.html

Nevada is considered the #1 most dangerous state in the USA (and the 49th smartest, above only Arizona, YIKES)! Now this does take into account what I would consider non-violent crimes (such as car theft, for which Las Vegas is considered #1 worst), but......it's obviously dangerous out there people! Next time someone asks me why I carry...

A major drug hub & a major illegal immigrant destination, combined with the fact that we cater to many vices (I a proud to live in "Sin City"), and that lots of folks carry around large sums of cash (just TRY paying with a $100 bill at 3AM at a 7-11 anywhere else) it's no wonder, we topped the list. Thankfully, I have not been stripped of my God-given, constitutionally protected right to self defense here.

The reason I noted I don't know the source's political agenda is that it also cites Alaska as a dangerous place (#7), and neither New York, New Jersey, nor Illinois made the Top 10 list....so FWIW...just thought you guys might like to take a look.

Seems like propoganda to me. VT lately has been listed as safest state #2 and they don't even require a "permit" to concealed carry. Lots of guns there, yet still safe... go figure.
