OK I think the Burke Lake motion is good, more shade is definitely a valid concern.

So we are looking at Sunday June 29th, 10ish, same spot as last time if possible, its first come first served so there is no guarantee. I can be the point of contact so if anyone needs to vector in PM me and I'll give you my cell number.

Ok so who is bringing what?

I'm thinking about bringing another case of water in hopes of trading it for another raffle ticket and winning another shotgun! :D

Someplace with plenty of shade sounds nice.

Schedule it around the 2nd or 3rd week in December then! :)

I can make up a list of what I would like for Christmas, and everybody can give me my presents while I am there!

I wasn't at the one last year so if would be great if someone would PM me the location within Burke Lake Park :)

If I can make it I should be able to bring a case of water at least :)

Just enter 7315 Ox Road, Fairfax Station, Virginia into Google maps.

You can then print out directions from your location.

I'd really enjoy it, and will participate another time, but we're out of town that week.

Reservations, though .... you really have two choices:
- take a chance you'll find an area vacant that isn't reserved - see this site for reservable areas. NB the area we had last year, which I thought was perfect, is not reservable.
- reserve a picnic site. You can do that through the county parks web page

Reservations are not inexpensive - I can't recall for certain, but I think it was $65 for the Bull Run reservation. I know it's over $25, since they charge a $25 cancellation fee for cancellations within 10 days. Also, cancelling for weather doesn't get you a refund; if it rains on your picnic, you can request a refund. My recommendation would be to have someone go early and get those nice shaded tables, even if they are a ways away from the rest rooms.

Burke Lake Park site:
  • There is no charge for Fairfax County residents.
  • Charge for non-county residents on weekends and holidays only (no charge on weekdays), April through late October:

    Car/Motorcycle: $8.00
    Large Capacity Van: $8.00
    Bus: $40.00

Who's bringing the green smoke grenades so we can invite the police helicopter crew?

We got anybody who can direct them into the LZ?

Heh, heh, heh. "Welcome to LZ O-C, Officer."

Do you know how they work the gates on weekends now that we don't have the FFX County stickers on our windshields anymore? I'd assume they'd check our Drivers license to see but I was just curious if anyone knows :)

They want to see a driver's license, a utility bill, a lease, etc. - anything that definitively shows you're a Fairfax County resident.

I'm tempted to get there early and secure a site. If you are in, PM me and I will you my number to call me on Sunday in you need to find the group. Also it will help us keep track of who is coming and how much stuff we will need.
