I found out a bit more today.

Apparently they are using some new scanning system to digitalize the paperwork for their computers. They were tossing the paperwork after it was scanned, but something has been going wrong in either the scanning or the storage of the images and part of the scans gets lost. They have now started saving the original paperwork, as backup, incase anything dissapears in cyber space again.

So everyone should call a month or so after applying for HCP, to make sure they have all your paperwork. Otherwise it could take the whole 90 days to get your application processed.

It took me about 65 days to get my permit in the mail. I was without internet access at the time or I'd have seen the information here about calling.

Now, I shoot at Gun City alot in Nashville since it is fairly close to my house. It is an OK range with friendly staff. The only thing to watch out for is if you are over 5'5" you may bump your head when going down the steep stairs. Just remember to always duck. :)

Does it affect renewals, and if so, how?

It probably does.

They ahve stopped throwing away the hardcopy original paper work after scanning. But if the scans don't show up on the computer they will have to sort through the originals to find what is missing. This will delay the processing. Calling and checking helps, so if something is missing you can fax or email or overnight what they need to expedite things along.
