traveling by motorcycle without a ccw

I need to travel to North Dakota this weekend by motorcycle and I do not yet have my concealed weopons permit. Anybody have any advise how I can carry my Glock to be safe and not get into trouble for having it?

My guess would be unloaded, gun and ammo locked up separately. According to the homepage, it doesn't look like ND allows any unlicensed carry.

Laws vary by state, it would be helpful to know what state you are leaving from and what states you will be going through. Check the OCDO homepage, travelers map.

well wouldn't carrying a unloaded, locked up firearm separate from the ammo by saddle bags be the same as carrying in a trunk?

Yes, per the FOPA:


"Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle: Provided, That in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console."

That's where I draw my advice. Even that might not be good enough in some states for intrastate travel. At the end of the day, we need more information to better point you in the right direction.

Thank you all for the replies...... The details are I will be leaving Seattle traveling interstate through Idaho and Montana to arrive in North Dakota. I have lockable saddle bags. Does a loaded magazine in one locked saddle bag and the pistol in the other locked saddle bag sound reasonable? I sure wish I hadn't put off the CCW now!
