I've heard many people on other forums complain that they feel they lose the element of surprise when open carrying. I don't feel that's the case. The one time I've open carried, I packed in the 4-4:30 position, just behind my newly developed love-handle. Looking in the mirror, I couldn't see it head on.

I'm speaking from almost no experience, but I think someone carrying should do the following anytime they carry.

1) use a locking holster like a SERPA or something else with retention system.
2) be aware of the people around you. Know that there's some thug walking up behind you, and your gun is exposed.

Blah. That's all I can think of. Is there anything else I should keep in mind when open carrying?

(On a side note, I don't like standing behind someone who is wearing a shoulder holster. I had a .40 Glock pointed at my face all through lunch because a marshall at the next table decided to wear that instead of a paddle. It was a bit unnerving.)
