First, I'd like to say sorry for not having gotten this up sooner, this happened on Tuesday, the 1st.
I was shopping with the girlfriendat theWal Mart next to the Supermall, and I had my Kimber in my leg holster, as usual, in jeans and a tank top with a cowboy hat on. Had a nice little chat with the greeter on the way in concerning my firearm until I satisfied her curiosity. I had been in there for at least a half hour and had just gotten into the sporting goods section when two police officers rounded the corner in front of me. One appeared to be a supervisor of some sort, with a button up shirt and tie on under his "bullet proof" vest (LEO1)and the other was a uniformed female officer (LEO2), followed by a Wal Mart manager (MAN1). Both officers seemed fairly relaxed, no hands on sidearms or anything.LEO1 told me that they had a MWAG call and they had to check it out.I informed them that my understanding was that Wal Mart Corporate policy was to mirror state law. They asked the usual questions for ID and CPL, which I provided.LEO1 said that they do the check to make sure that I can legally carry. He brought up that he knew that OC was legal and the department was working on a training bulletin already, but they had not yet seen OC until me.I also had a copy of the Seattle PD bulletin on OC which I provided toLEO1 at this point and offered a couple OCDO pamphlets which were refused. LEO1 also confirmed with me that I know that MAN1 has the right to ask me to leave and that I need to follow his request and then confirmed with MAN1 that he did in fact want me to leave, but I could still pay for my items. LEO2 called in all the information while I talked to LEO1 returned my ID and CPL with a smile and a comment about me having gotten my CPL from Auburn (she sounded surprised).
At this point the conversation turned from formal (although anything coming from an LEO, especially in uniform,I consider to be formal) to more personal, with both of them having questions concerning why I carry and whatmy intent with OC is. I explained that our mission is to educate the public that not only bad guys have guns, that self defense is not criminal, and that we as citizens havea RKBA. They both seemed very open to the idea and warned me, multiple times, that people aren't going to grasp it right away and I should expect to see PD responding to MWAG calls and probably some harassment from citizens. They complimented me on "handling the situation well" before I was escorted to the checkout line at the request of MAN1. The LEOs waited by the door while I checked out while MAN1 (supervised? lol) from behind me. As I approached the exit, LEO1 asked if he could get a few OCDO pamphlets, which I provided. The LEOs and MAN1 exited the building when my girlfriend and I did, and they were talking to each other when I lost sight of them on the way to the car.
I really need to get me a voice recorder...
