Wal-Mart varies in OC friendliness

Their official 'state law' policyseems to beloosly known throughout their management, so locations vary.

Moscow, ID'sunarmed, per company policy,'loss prevention (I guesscreating lost profits is a part of his job) officer'escorted me out the door. Friendly enough guy though, he definitely wasn't doing it for personal reasons.

Walla Walla/College Place, WA- No issues, never even approched or stalked by an employee.

Kennewick, WA (the one off of 395)- No issues, never even approched or stalked by an employee.

So does that mean it is up to each store what they want to do. Did you contact Jason to see what he says.

Anyone doing this is in error at a minimum. They are misinfomed and you need to go over their heads to get it straightened out. It is corporate policy and the local yahoo has no authoutity to override corporate, ever. Contact this guy, he will fix it for you;

I've open carried many a times in Moscow. Not too sure why you had a problem, but maybe I just got lucky. Only place we've ever been kicked out in Moscow was Wingers, and that was after we were done eating and only told to leave our guns in the car next time. :?

I go to school in Moscow at the U of Idaho and Oc into Wal-Mart and Wingers all the time. I have never been kicked out or escorted out or talked to about it. Of course at 6-4, 220lbs not many people want to approach me.

Another technique is simply to try to promote discreet open carry at these locations - if management frequently sees people OCing on the way out thru check out, it will become less likley they are going to try to intercept people when entering or while while shoopping. The managers are probably just confused.

I think the key is short visits, keep moving, discreet OC - black gun on black cothing for example.

Went to Wal-mart on Mill Plain in Vancouver today. No one even visibly noticed. Right side black paddle holster on belt with my Glock model 22. Wearing faded blue jeans and black work t-shirt with running shoes.

Front door to men's dept., then to checkout, stood in line at check-out a reasonably long period of time due to the lady in front of me helping her mobility-limited Grandmother do the monthly shopping, apparently.

Not a word, no pointing and whispering, no contact with employees other then the lackadaisical checkout dude.

Went to the bike shop downtown on Mcloughlin before thatand it took a while for anybody to notice. Finally, the guy who was helping me look through catalogs leaned far to the side (counter in betweeen us) and took a good look at my sidearm as if he had just noticed it. Since he was so interested, I moved my arm a bitto give him a clear view, and he asked "are you a cop?" to which I replied, No. and he said "Oh. That's cool, I guess." and went right back to talking about bicycles.

Today was my first time OC in town. Too warm and muggy for concealing.

Roger- although that's what I'm trying to avoid.I may take the more direct approach ofinformingthe local manager of corporate policy.

Good to hear...I tend to get lazy in the winter and not OC. I have a tactical leg holster, but that can unnerve some people.I do wear it in rural areas though.

Well, if the mananger is already causing a local problm, that might work, or elevate to the regional manager, but there's nothing like lots of customers discreetly and frequently open carrying . . .

Roger, thanks.I'll try and link up with some of the other locals. Most of the guys from Pullman are out of townfor the summer- so it's been just me holding down the fort here all summer.
