When do you not open carry?

Besides the lawful off-limits places, where do you not carry (out of choice)?

Sometimes I feel weird or don't carry around certain family membersbecause I don't want to deal with the negative issues and disucssions(you can't choose your family). Someone elses house/private property, around other people you don't know at family outings, etc.

i CC at work. in my field i have to deal with a lot of socialist mush heads and its not worth my job to OC there, or outside the building

I choose not to open carry:

- Around my wife when we're out in public. She hasn't warmed up to the idea of Open Carry around town yet. She's certainly not against packing (We're going to go apply for her CHL tomorrow), but she doesn't want the extra attention she's afraid we'll get ifI OC. She says she's never seen anyone else doing it, so maybe if we spot a good number of OTHER OCers, she'll warm up to the idea.

- Around my Mother-in-Law, pretty much same reason as my wife.

- In stores or businesses that ask me to conceal it, unless they flat out ask me to leave and don't come back without it. Trust me, I won't, except to let the owner know he's lost my business.

- At work, because weapons are against company policy. I would NEVER violate company policy :quirky. Strange how at work is the only place I wear a "fanny pack".

- At a public school during the school year. I think it's just pushing OC a little too far to expect people to be comfortable with that, but I am willing to push those boundaries just a little if open carry becomes more popular

Otherwise, around any other family or friends, I'll OC unless they ask me not to, but not without some reasonable discourse (the good kind).

I can't think of anywhere else in particular. I've only been OCing for about 2 months now, and I just got my CHL two days ago. Before the CHL, if I chose not to OC, I just wouldn't wear it.

Basically, not around people you care about who don't feel comfortable with the idea of an open carried pistol, and at places of business that politely ask you to conceal it while in their store. Other than that, I don't much care what other people think. I am a firm believer of making my self a hard target against being attacked. Hopefully they'll move on, and if they don't, they had plenty of time to notice that I'm not the right guy to mess with

I CC about 80% of the time. I mostly OC for activism purposes, sometimes out of laziness and, outside of activism, frequently out of comfort.

I finally just got my CHL and I think I have decided that I will OC when I am not representing any group but myself. I will CC when I represent a group of some sort.

I CC at church - If there visitors and were anti-gun and would likely form an opinion about the church based on my OC. I would like to give them an opportunity to like the church and get to know me... then I can convert them to gun owners.

I CC'd for a weekend lunch meeting with other people in the same profession as me. I was representing my employer and decided that OC would be inappropriate.

That's what I got for now... not a lot of experience with CC yet. OC is WAY more comfortable.

If I've been concealing all day, I will usually just stay concealed until I get home and have a chance to swap out holsters. Pretty much the only other time I conceal is around the house if my landlords kids have friends over. I am renting a basement room from a coworker who I am good friends with. He has requested that I don't OC with a bunch of little kids around (for his own reasons), and I have no good reason not to respect his wishes.

Well my pistol has onlya few miles on my belt from OCing because I just started OCing.I have found a few times that I have CC, one was while I was getting my DOT physical today, the sign on the door read no weapons, and i did not want to be kicked out without being checked out. But if I was accompanying someone there like a friend I would have OC.2nd when I went to apply for a job. 3rd at church or any church function because of the same reason posted above. Other than that so far I have been OCing.

Oh if I went to a place that is known for no OC I would CC, unless I want some action in my day

I just joined I have my CHL and usually CC I'm looking forward to OC as I beleive we need to excersise this more. I bought my first OC holster and have been wearing local to get used to it. It is kind of weird I usally check to make sure my pistol is concealed and not showing it will be nice to not worry about it.

I open carry almost everywhere I conceal carry. Some days it's just warm enought that I won't want to wear my coat. As for places I won't open carry, elks lodge, bars, and friends houses. I have a black hawk serpa holster and a quick disconnect system so when I'm sitting for more then 5 mins or at friends houses that know I have it and don't have kids I tend to disconnect it from the paddle and leave it on a table. Still in the holster I should add

I OC everywhere I go in this state that is legal except for the college where I have chosen to carry an empty holster in protest of their policies....while working on getting their policy changed.

Other than school, if I can't OC, I don't go. We no longer shop at CostCo or the local mall. Those are the only two places that my wife and I avoid due to OC. The mall because they stopped me AT the door as I was reaching for the handle and said "no guns" to which I handed the guard a "no guns no money" card and asked that he make sure the mall management gets it. FUNNY....they sell guns there, a friend bought one and he had to go outside the mall and around to their rear entrance where they met him and handed him his rifle. CostCo policy is no guns whether they enforce it or not in a particular store so I don't give them my money.

When I go to Calif I carry my holster on my side andthe weapon, slide locked to the rear and loaded magazine in a locked gun case in the front of the vehicle. When I get to moms or my sisters it comes out, gets loaded, and put in the holster once I'm on their property.

This is as of fall 2008 Students rights and responsibilities, section code of student conduct, under violations #17a


17. Failure to comply with the following rules regarding firearms and weapons:
a. The use, carrying, exhibiting, or displaying of any weapon (as defined by Oregon Revised Statute 161.015), or facsimiles thereof, is prohibited on or in College facilities, except as provided by Oregon law or when approved by College administration for official College activities.

I was just talking to a guy on The High Road forums and he says he carries on PCC every day. This policy I quoted here I got off their website. It is almost word for word the same as LCCs. You should check it out dude.

I've read them both and debated whether to include them or not. On the plus side, two CC's have recognized the law. On the negative side, that's not very many of them and RCC might decide to go with the herd.

I've also got them in my "research files" in case I decide to use them.
