The transmission in my company truck went out (third time in two years) Monday. I picked up a rental from the neighborhood rental place(think: early space travel show) and went in today to return it. I have rented from this office several times over the years and, invariably, one of the employees recognizes me. Today, I walked in and got a friendly "head-nod" from the counter guy. I took my place in line and spoke to the woman in line in front of me about the weather(very hot). Another counter guy stepped up and she advanced to the front of the new line. She was handled quickly and i moved up. Now I am standing next to a large, 6 ft,1" ,240-250 white male about 20 years old. He looks down and sees my piece, a Ruger P345 in a leather holster. He asks, "So, you a cop or something?" I answer him, "No". I didn't like his tone, kind of smart-assed. He turns and says to the clerk in front of him, and everybody else in the office," This jerk thinks he can walk in with a gun and everybody will be impressed". I turn to face him because if he is brazen enough to insult a 48 year old guy who is his size, he just might be stupid enough to try to touch me or my piece. As I turned, I hear a paper ripping noise. The clerk helping the punk has just torn the rental agreement in half. He tells the punk," He is a valued ,repeat customer and we don't have a problem with him or his weapon. Both are welcome here. You ,however, are not". Punk demands to be served. He gets refused on the basis of his age(20) and his attitude. I didn't see who, nor did anyone tell me, but somebody called the police. They arrive and walk in and size up the situation and escort the punk outside. I go back to doing my required paperwork. I hear the punk yell," There is a guy with a gun in there". My business concluded, I walk out. The nearest cop looks over and sees the gun. He asks if I have a license for it. I told him I do, but I don't need it to carry open. He smiled and said "Have a nice day".

All in all, a good day. All happened as it should have. Went to the Chevy dealer to pick up my truck and had a conversation with the service writer, with several customers listening in, about why I carry. He was not down on me for it, rather more inquisitive, and the whole waiting room seemed very at ease about an armed man in the room with them. Probably has a lot to do with personal appearance and demeanor than anything else. As I said, a good day.

+1 to the rental car office staff
    +1 to the LEOs
+1 to the service dept staff

-100 to the young **** hassling you

+1 to you keeping your cool

It is heartening to read stories where everything works the way it is supposed to as it gives me faith that our system is not irrevocably broken.
Bob Owens @ Bearing Arms (paraphrased): "These people aren't against violence; they're very much in favor of violence. They're against armed resistance."

To bad this is PA. I need to rent a truck in a few weeks. My wife will be gone so the garage is getting cleaned.

Without her, I will not have to "keep it for a tag sale". Just take it to the dump or donation place.

Based on your encounter, I would give them my business if I was in the area.

Awesome story. Kudos to the rental place - that kid seemed like a real idiot.

Maybe he mouthed off to someone else a few hours later and got the piss beat out of him....

Woo! Now that's a NICE story.

I'm surprised you didn't name the rental company, if I lived in PA, I'd patronize their business after that!
    Why open carry? Because 1911 > 911.

I didn't know if naming the business was allowed. I did allude to it early in the post. It was the Enterprise Car Rental in Warminster.

+1 to all but the punk.

I never understand why there are these idiots out there. I think of it like religion. I don't give a crap what you believe, just don't think I have to believe it too. Don't like guns? No problem. Try to take away mine, we have a problem.

    Great story!! Another classic!!
I'll make you an offer: I will argue and fight for all of your rights, if you will do the same for me. That is the only way freedom can work. We have to respect all rights, all the time--and strive to win the rights of the other guy as much as for ourselves.

If I am equal to another, how can I legitimately govern him without his express individual consent?

There is no human being on earth I hate so much I would actually vote to inflict government upon him.

Great story. I give the punk +1, for serving himself up as a shining example of ridicule and scorn. Every story needs a good villain, after all.

This is the kind of experience that almost makes me want to go get my gun tomorrow and a proper holster for OC It's such a pity that great experiences like this don't happen more often!

Be certain, however, to catch the next day's developments:
