Orwellian scheme - federal law bars DC residents from buying handguns in other states; DC refuses to allow gun dealers in City!

See WTOP's Mark Segrave's blog as his gun buying odessey continues:http://www.wtopnews.com/?nid=695&sid=latest

Read whole thing but snip from page 3:

"Vince Gray (D-At-Large), chairman of the D.C. Council, says he wants to make it as hard as possible for gun stores to open. "First of all, I don't want them anywhere," Gray says, "but if we're going to have them, we'll look at things, like keeping them away from schools and churches."

When the District first learned of the Supreme Court decision overturning the ban on handguns, Acting Attorney General, Peter Nickles, told reporters gun stores would be allowed to open in the city. "You can't very well stop someone from selling something that is legal to own," Nickles said.
That opinion seems to have changed a bit. When Mayor Adrian Fenty announced the new gun regulations this week, he said stand-alone gun stores would not be allowed to open. "That's my understanding," Fenty said.
Nickles told reporters that the law would not permit such stores, and that gun dealers would have to be part of a larger operation, such as a chain store that sells more than just guns. D.C. Councilmember Phil Mendelson (D-At-Large) says District code does not allow for the "display of guns in public."
Nickles expects to be back in court over the new regulations, and he's giving lawyers plenty of options from the ban on semi-automatics, to the trigger lock requirements, and now an apparent prohibition on gun stores."

Maybe the voting citizens of DC will finally be emboldened by the Supreme Court ruling and will vote all of the jerk councilmen out of office. They do have the vote in DC don't they?

So it seems that the supreme court decision acomplished very little if people can't legally aquire handguns and can't obtain licenses and registrations for them. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: The people need to vote everyone of these jerks out of office.

I will be happy to see these tyrants dragged into court again to have a judge explain to them what the constitution is, why we have it and that they are in violation of it and the SCOTUS decision. I would prefer to see them impeached and then arrested and tried for their intentional and continued violations of citizen constitutional rights and whatever the charge would be for blatantly flaunting their middle finger extention to SCOTUS.

The article makes a good point. Some intend not to vote for McCain using the logic that Obama will make only 1 or 2 Supreme Court nominations that will likely replace liberals with liberals. Unfortunately, the chief flaw in this logic is that the next president will also appoint scores of bureaucrats and hundreds of district and appellate judges. When it comes down to it, McCains picks, individually and collectively, will bea million times better than Obama's.

One of the most dangerous bunch of bureaucrats are in the EPA. In the future, we are very likely to lose more of our rights and freedoms to EPA regulations than any other.

If they don't want stand-alone gun stores, I'd make a point of offering crack pipes and smut as well - see how they like literal applications of the law like that (well, the former mayor might like that anyway...).

DC loses their case on their gun ban and then enacts almost the exact same thing and what's going to happen, another lawsuit? These people need to be carted off to jail for "circumventing" (really it's more like violating) a court order.

Tyranny!

In The Federalist No. 47, James Madison offered the following definition: "The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, selfappointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny."

Couldn't agree more, deepdiver. The ONLY thing these arrogant tyrants will understand is being completely vanquished from their public offices followed by fines and jail time for blatantly breeching the Constitution (multiple ways), the Law, and the highest court in the land.

They act as if they are Kings and Queens. Hmmm. Guess that attitude belies their Socialist 'We Know Better Than You' mentality...

How much more greivance does it take to get these idiots INDICTED, on Federal charges?

Dunno, but I'd say there's already a slam dunk case for contempt of court...

From the Opinion...

"the District must permit Heller to register his handgun and
must issue him a license to carry it in the home."

Doesn't say _A_ handgun, it says _HIS_ handgun.

I don't know how many people here live anywhere near DC, but I live pretty close and have done a lot of work there. I've met quite a few people from the district and most of them have the same mentality as the people on the city council. That's why they get voted back in time and time again. They voted a man in for mayor, then he got caught with an ex-girlfriendsmoking crack, then they voted him mayor AGAIN. Now hesits on the DC City Council and has had numerous run-ins with the law since being elected. And the people in DC LOVE HIM. I've worked with a few guys from DC while with the IBEW. Not one person had anything bad to say about Marion Barry. I'm not sure these people should be allowed to vote for their neighborhood watch coordinators, let alone the people who determine public policy.

I often wondered aboutwhat the citizens of D.C. thought about all of this. Unbelievable!

My apologies to anyone offended by mypost before I edited it. Won't happen again. I should have known better.

That's one of the reasons why I left Massachusetts, it didn't matter who I voted for, the same liberals kept getting elected. At this point congress will have to strip the DC city council of their authority to regulate firearms. Otherwise what's to stop them from continuing to ignore the high courts' ruling. It seem to me that if the issue went back to court DC would simply ignore that too. Until someone is held accountable nothing will change.

Seriously, maybe we should petition either BassPro or Cabelas to open a store in D.C.?
